Absorbine_Sr Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Jim Carroll, poet and punk, passed away Friday at the age of 60. Probably most famous for "The Basketball Diaries", I'll remember him for the "Catholic Boy" album - a sweet taste of late 70's NYC punk. "They were all my friends, and they died." NYT Obit
boomana Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 That's sad and not. I hung out with him a bit at a two-week writing program at a Buddhist college back in 83 (?) 84 (?). Back then, he was coked up, spazzed out, and a bit of a drama queen diva. I did like Catholic Boy a lot, and Basketball Diaries was great back in the day. He was definitely a unique, interesting, and very talented guy that kinda self-destructed like so many. I haven't even thought about him in years. RIP, Jim.
skullguise Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Didn't even know about this until today. I got to met him briefly in the mid-80's as well, he still seemed pretty much "destructed" then. But the news of his passing seemed to hit a little harder and sadder than some of the recent celebs' deaths. Not sure why.....
