Review: Britts Donuts, Carolina Beach, NC

I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of Tim Horton's here in Canada. The donuts are a lighter and more bready texture, as opposed to the heavier donuts I am used to back in Australia.

Only had Krispy Kreme a couple of times...... I find them far too greasy and sickly sweet in comparison.

Well I'm not a big Donut fan, except of coarse the wooden ortho variety.

I've always been more of a bagel guy, but I agree that a KK now and again is a pretty tasty treat.

Britts Donuts were pretty damn tasty. Not a huge KK fan, so this was a welcome treat.

How can somebody who seems to be a huge fucking sugar addict not love KK?

KK donuts are like drinking half the bottle of Scotch in one go. Sometimes sipping slowly is more fun.

Also, Dunkies Boston Cream 4 -- Krispy Kreme 0

Yeah but Colin was scooping up the sugar flakes off the plate to eat them.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of fish either.

Oh I like fish OK, especially my native Halibut and Salmon, but not in my pastries. I know you Vikings, and most of you like to sneak fish in everywhere. :D

We tend to try and sneak ham into everything, croissant with ham and cheese (which is mixed with ham) being the most obvious one...

Well that's a trend I can get on board with. Bring on the ham!

I'm a Krispy Kreme fan. I disagree with the host and lean towards the findings of Vicki. These were all hand-made to KK's factory production. I think the OP would find pleasure in visiting a Krispy Kreme. (There was one on the way to the shooting range/possibly airport as well). KK would have a doughnut (as opposed to Dunkin' Donuts' 'donut' spelling) tolerance of roughly 3%, as opposed to the ~25% variance of Britt's.

The taste was pretty good, though I still prefer KK. A large problem was these was a grossly inconsistent texture. The aforementioned chewey texture was countered with a spattering of areas that were a bit over done. The variances are deeper than this, but you'l just have to go out and try one or two (dozen) for yourself.

The reason I think the OP would enjoy a KK is 1) the consistency of the doughnut and 2) the wide range of flavours (Brrittts' has only glazed, iirc, where KK has a variety closer to that of the amount of cookies Wayne has eaten and compared before.

I'd say 6-7/10 tops on the Doughnut-gon scale.

**BRENT**
