The Monkey Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I'm looking for some new hex keys/allen wrenches. I have the typical cheap set and assorted ones that came with furniture, but those suck because they tend to corrode or get stripped by tight screws. I need a set that is well-made and has more torque than the typical L-shaped keys. I know Klein makes sets, but they can get pricey. Any recommendations?
Voltron Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I'm a fan of the ball end type of hex wrenches, and some have the "power bar" or similar to provide more torque action. Also, there is this kind of thing, although I don't actually own them: -Click It-
luvdunhill Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 In my opinion, there is only one choice: Bondhus - Timesaving GorillaProof Tools
luvdunhill Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Ooh Gorilla Grips, primate friendly yes, I figured the recommendation was rather apropos
aardvark baguette Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 wow there's a lot of flagrant animal hate in this thread. Fucking intolerant motherfuckers.

swt61 Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) My favorite Allen wrench set is made by Husky (Home Depot). They will replace any broken wrench in store, no questions asked, just like Craftsman. The piece to the right is a handle for more torque, and also slips inside both sets of wrenches for a nice hanger. I've had my set for better than 10 years now. Husky 13 Pc. SAE & 13 Pc. Metric Combo Flat-End Hex Wrench System - 12206 at The Home Depot They do have an identicle ball end set as well. Edited August 28, 2009 by swt61
Pars Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Gotta do the ball end. I have some Bondhus and they are great, but a little pricey. I ran across some Stanley (both in metric and SAE) some time ago in an Ace Hardware (I think, but can't quite remember) and they are pretty much as nice. These are standard ball allen sets in the plastic carrier thing with long "L" handles.

n_maher Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Oops sorry, I thought this was a thread about ipodbj. That one would be titled "Worthless Tools".
The Monkey Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 It's all about torque these days, gentlemen.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Oops sorry, I thought this was a thread about ipodbj.I wouldn't recommend him, though.
diebenkorn Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 can he really fit the whole ipod in his mouth?
The Monkey Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 So the basic premise is correct, right? Some hex keys/drivers are better than others?
luvdunhill Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 So the basic premise is correct, right? Some hex keys/drivers are better than others? Not in the objective sense. It really depends on the user's preferences and overall system matching. Which DAC are you trying to open and gaze at the chipses again?
Pars Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Just make sure you set the wrenches in front of the unit and let them coexist for a couple of hours first... synergy, ya know
boomana Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I was actually going to recommend a couple songs from 10,000 Days as great for cardio, but I see now that I have it all wrong again. Recommendations anyway: Right In Two, and The Pot. You'll like them for running fast, Monkey Man.
luvdunhill Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 heh, the Esoteric. I had a feeling this thread was about DACs!
The Monkey Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 well, I need it for some knobs too...
