Hopstretch Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 The The, "Infected" Also, "This Is The Day". (Wanders off to find Soul Mining)
Dusty Chalk Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Also, "This Is The Day". (Wanders off to find Soul Mining)"Perfect" would be too obvious?
mypasswordis Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 A rather obvious and possibly overplayed song, but I'll say it anyway: Bohemian Rhapsody. I also have a soft spot for long well-done songs like PF's Echoes and Atom Heart Mother and PT's Anesthetize.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Frankie Goes to Hollywood, "Power of Love" Art of Noise, "Moments in Love" U2, "One" Ultravox, "Visions in Blue" XTC, "Dear God" Placebo, "For What It's Worth" Black Sabbath. "Paranoid", "Black Sabbath" Deep Purple, "April" Yes, "Heart of the Sunrise" Rush, "YYZ", "La Villa Strangiato" Premiata Forneria Marconi, "The Mountain" Roxy Music, "Love is the Drug", Elton John, "Love Lies Bleeding"/"Funeral For a Friend" Chris Isaak, "Dancin'", "Voodoo", "Funeral in the Rain", "The Lonely Ones", "Wicked Game", "Blue Spanish Sky", "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing", Talking Heads, "Houses in Motion" (one of these days, I'm going to throw those three drum hits and grunt in the middle of the song), as well as all of side one: "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)", "Cross-Eyed and Painless", "The Great Curve". Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music, "Love is the Drug", "My Only Love", "Windswept", "Jealous Guy" (live version from The High Road), "Is Your Love Strong Enough?" Tangerine Dream, "Cloudburst Flight", "Thru Metamorphic Rocks" Jace Everett, "Bad Things" (Theme to True Blood)
aardvark baguette Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Black Sabbath. "Paranoid", "Black Sabbath" I believe this is the perfect SONG thread
Takashi Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 November - Max Richter Wow.. just wow absolutely amazing use of strings leaves me in tears every time. If your just listening to it make sure to listen to the whole thing.. it's a piece as a whole don't judge just by the intro.
aardvark baguette Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 So what are you saying, huh? You were looking for the perfect albums thread, of course.
aerius Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 In case you're not being sarcastic, "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid" are the title tracks from their respective albums.
Fungi Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Yes, "Heart of the Sunrise" I love that song (and pretty much the whole album) but I do remember Bruford himself saying that the drums were "dated" and that he liked the newer Yes drummer's simpler version more in some drum book. Not that I agree, but maybe it's not so perfect
Dusty Chalk Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) I love the drumming in the original studio version, I don't care if the drummer himself doesn't. Rick Wakeman has also turned his back on the genius of Tales..., which is one of my favorite albums by them. And yes, I meant the songs, not the albums. Black Sabbath -- I can't listen to those guitar solos any more without thinking of Spinal Tap. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love those albums, and they are near perfect, I just don't think smiling at the humor of the imagery is the intended reaction, and didn't used to be. And Paranoid has "Rat Salad", which sucks. I thought maybe you were saying they weren't songs, and I was ready to Edited August 28, 2009 by Dusty Chalk
aardvark baguette Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Nine Inch Nails - Just Like You Imagined
GPH Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I love that song (and pretty much the whole album) but I do remember Bruford himself saying that the drums were "dated" and that he liked the newer Yes drummer's simpler version more in some drum book. Not that I agree, but maybe it's not so perfect I strongly disagree with him on that one, his weird "off" drumming during the intro section is one of my favorite things in this song.
GPH Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Genesis - Entangled Marillion - Hotel Hobbies/Warm Wet Circles/That Time Of The Night Camel - Lady Fantasy
diebenkorn Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Minutemen - History Lesson Part II
Hopstretch Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Manic Street Preachers -- "Motorcycle Emptiness" Is it OK to link the shitty video if they went all the way to the Far East to make it all look more alienated back in the day? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20KqE3t1tro Buy the album! Generation Terrorists! Can't go wrong! I didn't say that!
skullguise Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I like a lot of what's already been said here, and others will have to check out for sure. Hopstretch Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Billy Bragg -- "Tank Park Salute" I hate this song because it makes me cry every single fucking time thinking about my own Dad. Stupid ginger bastard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5heTJ65bdhU&feature=player_embedded
morphsci Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Aliotta, Haynes and Jeremiah - Lake Shore Drive; For Eddy Head East - Never Been any Reason (Actually the whole album [Flat as a Pancake] is pretty damn perfect)
postjack Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Egad. I could list a lot, but since I'm listening to this one for the third time in a row right now, I'm going to say the live version of Little Feat's Willin'. I love that song. awesome. and you're right, the live version stomps the studio version, which suffers from that "we're all snorting ritalin" issue that you see a lot in studio songs of that era. The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?? Pretty much sums up everything ever. I'd also add "Fight Test". Blur, "Song #2" and "Boys & Girls" Phil Collins, "In the Air Tonight" I dunno about Song #2. Grows to weary to be perfect, IMO. With you on the other two though. A rather obvious and possibly overplayed song, but I'll say it anyway: Bohemian Rhapsody. Its a masterpiece and Mercury is a god. Agreed. My vote for most perfect Genesis song is always "Firth of Fifth". I can't listen to this song and not give it my absolute full attention.

skullguise Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Toni Childs - Daddy's Song Cool, didn't think many others knew/liked her. I love "Walk And Talk Like Angels" a lot, too.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Ultravox, "Visions in Blue"Stretch, how did you let me get away with this? Ultravox, "Vienna", "Sleepwalk", "Lament", many others. Clan of Xymox, "A Day", "Stranger" New Order, "Sunrise", "Age of Consent"
