Beach Boys "God Only Knows"

King Crimson "I Talk to the Wind/Epitaph" from the first album

Be Bop Deluxe "Down on Terminal Street"

Chuck Berry "No Particular Place to Go"

Those are the ones that quickly came to mind.

I have had this concept swirling around in my head since I saw the semi-drunk philodox post it. These are a few of the songs that bubbled up from the depths without too much analysis. For me, they fit the criteria.

* The Who -- Behind Blue Eyes and My Generation and Sparks

* U2 -- I Will Follow

* Beck -- Loser

* The Beatles -- Norwegian Wood and Day in the Life

* Led Zeppelin -- Black Dog and Over the Hills and Far Away

* The Kinks -- You Really Got Me and Waterloo Sunset

* The Clash -- London Calling and Magnificent Seven

* English Beat -- Mirror in the Bathroom

* Muddy Waters -- Good Mornin Little School Girl

* Miles Davis -- So What

* Ornette Coleman -- Lonely Woman

* Oliver Nelson -- Stolen Moments

* Bill Evans -- Waltz for Debby

* John Coltrane -- Chasin the Trane

* Louis Armstrong -- What a Wonderful World

Sheesh, that seems weird to just pick those, but all of them are perfect in their own way for me.

Some good songs here and some that I'll need to be checking out. I'm just going to keep listing songs as I hear them rather than trying to remember a list all at once, but with that said...

ulrich schnauss - goodbye

Couple of mine off the top of my head, through the prism of nostalgia:

Midnight Oil -- Blue Sky Mine

The Men They Couldn't Hang -- Island In The Rain

The Pogues -- A Rainy Night In Soho

Prince -- Purple Rain

The Proclaimers -- I'm On My Way

Deacon Blue -- Dignity

The Smiths -- There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Soft Cell -- Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

Counting Crows -- Rain King

Dunno what it is with the precipitation thing tonight.

Into girl singers lately (always?):

Garbage: I'm Only Happpy When It Rains

Curve: Lillies Dying

(actually, a bunch of Curve stuff comes to mind. Just wish they were recorded better.)

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: More News From Nowhere

Loreena McKennitt: The Lady of Shallot

Natalie Merchant: Thick as Thieves

Massive Attack: Teardrop

Jeff Buckley: Hallelujah

And a guilty pleasure special: Concrete Blonde: Everybody Knows

I should despise that song but I have always loved it.
