Funny, the camera kit I ordered didn't ship and won't until May 17. I did order another power adapter, and I got that email last night -I got all excited, then, 'grrrr, just the power adapter'!! But then got this at 508am this AM ...

I think from the picture that the Pico is PCM270* USB interface, which is pretty standard with no drivers required under most O/S. Perhaps the other DACs tested have a different or less common USB interface?

Just thinking about this a little bit--what if one were to feed the camera kit USB into a USB-->SPDIF converter-->DAC? I wonder if that would work...

Don't see why not. In the Pico that receiver chip converts USB to I2S, and in other designs like the Gamma1 it can convert to either SPDIF or I2S.

My understanding is anything that uses the USB-Audio profile will work. So it's still limited to 48/16

Wow, that takes me back. I had one of those - in sand or black, I forget which - and actually it turned out to be fussy to deal with, more than utilitarian and manly. Stiff fabric with tough zippers and very tough velcro made it hard to reach in and grab something one-handed. Well, maybe unless the bag's weighted down with something meaty like a Glock or two. I confess I didn't try that.

Mine also had a fairly strong smell of left-in-a-damp-warehouse-too-long. If I were a manlier man I guess I could've pretended that was natural musk. But I'm much too fail for that, so it just made me the funny-smelling dork with the bag he could open only with lots of spastic tugging.

(Those of you who know me may be going, "exactly, go with it, man, that's a look that fits you." Thanks. Anyway we finally abandoned the thing in Venice, and smelled much better on the trip home.)

Bummer, Monkey! Although do I remember correctly that you ordered yours after careful, reasoned deliberation a few days later, as opposed to impulsively getting up early in the AM of the first possible day, while everyone else is fast asleep, and sitting in the dark computer room, hoping your wife doesn't wake up to see you're surfin' the web at 7am, then ask what you're doing on the computer at 7am, and wondering if it would be better to say you're surfing porn rather than to say that you're buying that new iPad plus a whole bunch of accessories for it ... ?

Ha! That's really funny, that just puts the funniest image in my head ... we're sneaking around like addicts buying our tech stuff ; and what would you have told him if he woke up and asked what the heck you're doing on the computer at 5am ?
