tyrion Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I guess it's just a matter of time before mine changes as well. I better head over to Best Buy as well.

n_maher Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I will admit that the more days that pass and the more actual features that get shown the more likely I am to buy one.
n_maher Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I'm ordering the 64GB 3G tonight. I'd reread that article about why you don't want the 3G built in model, Dinny. If memory serves you hated AT&T's 3G service in NYC much like I hate it in NH.
Hopstretch Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Yeah, plus then you can go to the NYC Apple store tomorrow and just get trampled to death one!
The Monkey Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 3G does suck eggs in NYC, but I want the option.
n_maher Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 3G does suck eggs in NYC, but I want the option. I guess more to point is how do you see yourself using it? Would you ever really be so far from a wifi hotspot that it'd be worth it?
The Monkey Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I guess more to point is how do you see yourself using it? Would you ever really be so far from a wifi hotspot that it'd be worth it? Yes. Unbelievably, my office does not have WiFi (don't ask--my Company is in the tech stone age). In addition, we technically are not supposed to have access to our personal/external email accounts. So while I have such access, the option to just use the iPad would be nice. I also end up doing a fair amount of emailing from cabs so the 3G is useful there.
Hopstretch Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Also, this is, I think, the best article/review so far from the advance team. Apple's iPad: The Mothership Prepares for Launch -- Printout -- TIME
tyrion Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I guess more to point is how do you see yourself using it? Would you ever really be so far from a wifi hotspot that it'd be worth it? I will most likely have the ability to tether to my phone. However, I hope the first month or so before the 3G ship to determine whether 3G is needed. I suspect it will not be as there are plenty of wifi available. I get 2 hours free a day at Starbucks. The most likely situation where I will need 3G is when traveling for business and pleasure. In those situations, there is always a Starbucks option. If not, a Boingo wifi hotspot, which will not be expensive for the ipad. I understand wanting the option but I think in the end it will be a waste.
laxx Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Last night's Modern Family was about getting an iPad!
Hopstretch Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I should have bought the wife one to take with her to South Africa on Sunday. She could have been the coolest person in the entire Southern Hemisphere.
n_maher Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I should have bought the wife one to take with her to South Africa on Sunday. She could have been the coolest person in the entire Southern Hemisphere. I take it this means you won't be sending yours with her? Where's the love?
tyrion Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Definitely do not make Stretch choose, it will likely end very badly.
The Monkey Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 The Fry article is great, 'stretch. Clincher: "One melancholy thought occurs as my fingers glide and flow over the surface of this astonishing object: Douglas Adams is not alive to see the closest thing to his Hitchhiker's Guide that humankind has yet devised."
CD44hi Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Oh, the anticipation!> It would be cool if at least some basic apps would run on the touch. For instance the ebook reader ap. I use the kindle version on the touch a lot. It would be nice to try the apple version.

I know. The photo of Jobs is pretty wild, too.
Salt Peanuts Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Don't make me choose. Weren't you going to line up at a local BestBuy just in case anyways?
Hopstretch Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Apparently they're getting a maximum of 15 per store, with four of those earmarked for display only. So, no. Also: Apple - iPad-ready websites Dear Flash, Die die die. Steve Sent from my iPad
