shellylh Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I like the NY times app. The previous limited selection was a bit annoying.
blessingx Posted October 21, 2010 Author Report Posted October 21, 2010 32% Of iPad Owners Have Never Downloaded An App Is this accurate??
The Monkey Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I wonder if that supports or refutes Gruber's argument:
shellylh Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 32% Of iPad Owners Have Never Downloaded An App Is this accurate?? I am not surprised by this. My husband's brother bought their mom an ipad. When I visited her in August, she didn't even know what they app store was (even after going to a class on how to use the ipad ). I ``forced'' her to set up an account of her own and downloaded some basic free apps. I guess my husband's brother had set up the ipad for her and she was just using the mail program and safari.

tyrion Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I've considered those in the past as well as the hard cases that are supposed to be coming out. Most of the time I would have it in my lap and it seems that the ones like the Kensington may not be stable but worth checking out. The hard case ones take the iPad from a nice portable device to something bigger than I think I would want but should check them out as well. The beauty of the 11" MBA, like the iPad is that they are perfect for portability. Rationalization, sure but not unreasonable. Thanks, I had actually forgotten about this option.
jvlgato Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Makes sense. Here's the other one that looked interesting. It has a soft case, so might be a lot more portable, but maybe not so stable. KeyCase iPad Folio Deluxe with Bluetooth Keyboard - Black - GearZap.com
tyrion Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 This one looks like it may be worth a look when and if it's released: Adonit Writer adds one more option to the iPad folio + keyboard barrage -- Engadget
jvlgato Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 These all look cool. But it would be nice to know how much they really weigh, plus I'd want to be able to open it up like a tablet if I didn't need the keyboard. I wouldn't want to have to remove the iPad. It'll be nice when they are all released and you can actually see them and read other's experiences.
recstar24 Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Anyone know whats up with the delayed 4.2update? Last I wad was they delayed it due to a bug causing the wifi to stop working.
blessingx Posted November 22, 2010 Author Report Posted November 22, 2010 Apple will release iOS 4.2 today at 10:00 a.m. PST
morphsci Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I think I will wait a bit to assess the collateral damage.
jvlgato Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I think I will wait a bit to assess the collateral damage. x2
tyrion Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 My update should be done when I return home tonight. I will post if there are any issues after the update. Remember to save your SHSH files before you update with tinyumbrella if you want the option to jail break in the future.
agile_one Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Running 4.2.1 and it seems fine. Thought it might slow things down a bit, but I see no difference. Nice to have Pandora playing in bg as I type this in Safari.
The Monkey Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 My upgrade is not going well at all.
tyrion Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 It took me a few tries and then it worked for me. The servers are probably overwhelmed. I like the changes so far. Some people are complaining it slowed their iPads but I have not noticed any change in speed. The home button is slightly delayed but I am guessing that is due to the double tap for switching between programs. Also, Atomic Browser tabs don't disappear when ever you close it and then open it up again.
The Monkey Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I was able to dl the update, but my iPad refuses to boot. I have the apple with the "progress" bar at 50% and now pos iTunes is stuck on checking library. Fuck you Steve Jobs!
VPI Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Worked beautifully on both the iPad and iPhone for me. Don't really see much benefit but the unified inbox for e-mail. It would have been a lot more interesting if the real air print had shown up and not just the watered down HP version.
tyrion Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I'm not upgrading my iphone just yet. I will wait until they JB 4.2. I will give Airplay a try later.
The Monkey Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Electronics always behave for Jeff.
The Monkey Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 No. I think I fixed the iTunes and iPad. The library file got hosed. First time using time machine. Worked ok. Yay Steve Jobs!
recstar24 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I'm stuck too. It literally is near the very end but it won't move any further on the iPad status bar. iTunes is stuck too
tyrion Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Mine hung near the end for a while before finishing.
HeadphoneAddict Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 A few people have reported that their USB DAC/amp that worked before with the camera connection kit have now stopped working with 4.2, with the iPad telling them that they draw too much power. One person has the Nuforce uDAC, and another the iBasso D12. They claim they worked before and now they don't. On head-fi I posted a detailed report of 8 USB DAC/amps that work with iPad 3.2, and the uDAC and D10 were among those that work now. I am now waiting and watching to see if Apple killed this for all USB DACs or just some of them. I did save my SHSH blobs with tiny umbrella when I jailbroke it, and I suppose I could go to 4.2 and test it out, and return to 3.2.1 if I don't like it. But, I have the iPad working exactly the way I want it, and I don't want to screw it up or have to re-install everything and re-jailbreak it.
