grawk Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 the parts of the gov't I've worked for (DOC and DOD) both had mac clients for the cisco vpns we used. There aren't many vpns that don't support mac at this point. As to billing software, that should be a good candidate for parallels
shellylh Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Besides some games, I have just used certain *very* specialized math software that was only written for Windows. Oh yeah, I also used PlayOn via Windows until I got totolly Fed up with PlayOn.
luvdunhill Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Malware analysis that does VM detection and anti debugging techniques is why I still have to use a Windows box at work.
jvlgato Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 the parts of the gov't I've worked for (DOC and DOD) both had mac clients for the cisco vpns we used. There aren't many vpns that don't support mac at this point. As to billing software, that should be a good candidate for parallels Sorry, I should have said - I am running parallels and am very happy with it! Regarding our vpn - it is, in fact, cisco, but the web site with the officially sanctioned software we are allowed to use does not list any mac compatible versions. It also stated very clearly that no other software is allowed, and could, in fact, be against Federal law, and we will come after your first born, cut off your privates, etc... I actually emailed them and left voicemails asking for a Mac version of the vpn, and got the usual response ... {crickets chirping} .... silence ... no response. When I actually got a human being, I was told that I wasn't even allowed to access the system off site at all, so what are you talking about? I told him I got the Windows version vpn software from the official VA web site w/ instructions included, so it must be allowed. He said to not say anything more, otherwise he'd have to come after me, and he didn't want to do that. I said thank you, and hung up. I do know that the DOD uses different software than the one we use for the VA hospitals, making it impossible for us to access any health records created during their military time. They are trying to merge the systems, but neither side wants to back down to make the switch to the other. There's excess security regarding computers at the VA's right now, because there have been several incidents of employees nationwide walking home with VA laptops containing HIPAA protected info on them (against VA policy), then having them stolen, and thus losing several million HIPAA protected Vet's names/ssn's/diagnosis, etc... Seems unrelated to what I want to do, but hey, does that matter? Your Federal tax dollars at work ...
morphsci Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 SAS and the windows version of Excel will keep me running parallels for the forseeable future.
jvlgato Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Reks, you're right. They weren't supposed to put it on their laptop. They broke VA policy by doing it- two or three separate times by different people at different VA's. So the response was to clamp down on computer security on all of us nationwide.
jvlgato Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 i do work for the khmer rouge. So, with not too much of a stretch, Cincinatti is Cambodia, and Jerry Springer is Pol Pot?
blessingx Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 This whole time I thought you worked for The Shining Path.

agile_one Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 I did, but that was back when I was a student. I'm interviewing with FARC next week. Jesus! Just when I think I have you nailed down, you post something like this. wtf? I had you as 2nd gen Black Panther channeling Plato.
agile_one Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Aristotle, never Plato. Aristotle, of course. A northern Greek. And, I thought you had soul ... so disappointed. I should have known when you shunned the grits at breakfast. It's all good, though, because we need pure intellect for the cause, too. You ARE in for the cause, no? Silly question, of course you are ... you BE the cause (in the headphone fora world .... let's not get carried away here) But you need we simpletons to augment the bright light of knowledge with the round, puffiness or feeling, intuition, and the muscle and sinew of willing soldiers. Lead on, you worthy greek.
blessingx Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 What kind of music does this Aristotle character produce? I only know Platos output. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TCq_ZBKamk YouTube - The Hidden Musical Code of Plato
morphsci Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 ^^^ This. Definitely a worthy upgrade.
shellylh Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Nice!!! I hadn't realized they had finally updated it.
LarsMarkelson Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Oh man. I google'd to see how much it costs, only to find out it's a joke image. That would be awesome!!
Hopstretch Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Oh man. I google'd to see how much it costs, only to find out it's a joke image. That would be awesome!! Until you try to take a slug of the coffee and bean yourself on the forehead with the tablet -- a move that I predict will come to be known as the facepad.
recstar24 Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 For some reason I cannot get remote on iPad to find my iTunes library. Home sharing is turned on but it won't connect.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 For some reason I cannot get remote on iPad to find my iTunes library. Home sharing is turned on but it won't connect. Check what you have checked under "Sharing" tab in Preferences for iTunes to see if any of that is making a difference.
recstar24 Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Needed to update iTunes to the newest 10.01 version, works great now.
HeadphoneAddict Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Needed to update iTunes to the newest 10.01 version, works great now. I'm still on 9.2.1 and the new remote worked last time I checked.
