Ok I kid one more question :) I have a 24/96 flac which will convert to apple lossless but it can't transfer to the iPad - how do I change it to 16/48 in order for it to be transferred and played?

How much trouble are you willing to go through to save $10? ;) In Max the downsampling options are in the encoder settings per codec type.

Yep, that is the reason I do all my transcoding in dbpoweramp. It is fast and easy and does a great job at batch conversions. One of the few windows programs that just works. Not free however.

Ah, I am using the trial dbpoweramp and they don't have those transcoding options. Will go ahead and purchase it as its a pretty useful tool. The trial version doesn't let you edit tags either.

dBpoweramp has transcoding (as in downsampling) options, you just need to add DSP filters (lower pane) one to downsample from 96 to 44.1 and the other to reduce the bit depth from 24 to 16. BTW the iPod will take 24/44 ALAC.

^ might be on the YouTube side. Same thing is happening with both my iPhone and iPad as well.

EDIT - It's mostly happening to me only at forum sites. I can see embedded YouTube videos just fine at non forum sites.

Something changed on YouTube's end.  If you look at for example:

The HTML source embed code for YouTube files here on Head-Case, is:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=aTLySbGoMX0?version=3

Indeed, all the embedded YouTube videos on Head-Case follow that format.

If you try to go that link directly on a desktop computer, everything is fine.

If you try to go that link directly on an iOS device, you will get redirected but then the connection will fail.

If you look at http://apiblog.youtube.com/2010/07/new-way-to-embed-youtube-videos.html you will see that the correct embed code uses the format (since 2010):

http://www.youtube.com/embed/aTLySbGoMX0

Indeed, if you try to go that link on an iOS device, it works perfectly.

So what has changed is YouTube enforcing the correct embed codes. (It seems Head-Case's forum software has been using the wrong embed code)

^ Not surprised about closing the apps.  I remember taking a look at a coworker's iPhone last year to fix a Wi-fi setting and noticed it had just about every single app that was installed open.

So are they replacing your iPad?

The Little Monkey's birthday is coming up and I am thinking of getting him an iPad of some kind.  Here are the minimum requirements: 32GB WiFi (no cell), new dock connector.

Should I get the Mini or the Biggie?  The Boy will be 7.

Get the Mini. Little Monkey isn't going to care about the screen resolution or internals and it's much the better form factor for little people. We have three full size iPads and one Mini in the house and the kids ( 7 & 8 ) always fight over the Mini.

Mini for sure.  The lack of retina display doesn't bother me at all for video viewing, web/Flipboard browsing or reading.  And I'd imagine there will have to be either some significant advance in battery tech or compromise on battery life or the form factor (thickness or weight) to add the retina display.  Ultimately that's why I felt comfortable getting the first generation of the Mini.

I agree with Stretch.  Size does matter (unfortunately :-  )

I've said this my whole life. But now you're telling me smaller is better? My life is over!
