Dusty Chalk Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I wouldn't count on Apple not locking out the capability until the officially supported it. Quote

The Monkey Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Ordered. IS there another vendor aside from Apple selling this thing? Wait is 2-3 weeks. Quote
VPI Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Probably at the Apple store. That is what I am going to try. Quote
jvlgato Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Ordered. IS there another vendor aside from Apple selling this thing? Wait is 2-3 weeks. I ordered one, too. I'd rather wait 2-3 wks than have to trek over to the Apple store. I wish my local Best Buy would stock this stuff! Quote
blessingx Posted April 26, 2010 Author Report Posted April 26, 2010 No camera adapter at the SF stores. Was told they'd likely be in the stores late this week though. Have seen the Belkin Grip Vue Thermoplastic Polyurethane case on a couple co-workers iPad and love it in nearly every regard except the headphone jack hole is extremely small (can't even get an AT/Sony screw plug in let along a Grado adapter, etc.). Because of the form/shape of the case I think cutting a larger hole would be difficult, so anyone seen a similar (preferably TPU) case with a large-ish headphone jack hole by chance? Quote
VPI Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I have that case and really like it but I have to use the adapters that came with my Switcheasy cases to get the JH13 cable and the Whiplash cables to fit. Great case though. Quote
blessingx Posted April 26, 2010 Author Report Posted April 26, 2010 I wonder if something like this would even fit? APPLE Metallic 3.5mm Female To 3.5mm Male Handsfree Adapter(Silver), FREE Shipping, APPLE PHONE Metallic 3.5mm Female To 3.5mm Male Handsfree Adapter(Silver) Quote
VPI Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 There is room for any straight plug besides the stupidly large Viablue plugs. The customs that use the right angle fat plug will not fit either. Quote
blubliss Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Pardon me if this has been discussed but I did not find it. I need a remote to control itunes/amarra and am thinking of the touch or ipad. Is the touch enough or is the VNC capability/extra real estate of the ipad a real plus? Is the remote app for the ipad a touch app (not great) or does it have its own now. It's a lot for a remote but I am sure i could find other uses. Quote
VPI Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 The free Apple remote has not been updated for iPad yet so I can't comment on its capabilities. The Rowmote is similar but easier to function on the iPad than the Touch. The VPN capability on the iPad is great for controlling my Mini/Amarra so I use it for this function much more than the remote. Quote
grawk Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Itunes Remote on the touch/iphone is a great interface to itunes, and should work well with amarra. Quote
VPI Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 It can be used with Amarra as you can use Amarra without actually controlling the little Amarra window but you have to have some other way to actually open/turn off or on Amarra. Are you controlling a headless Mac Mini or is this to control a computer from across the room that has full controls at the actual computer? Quote
blubliss Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 For now, I am using a hackintosh that does have a keyboard/mouse, but i would like to keep it headless and without these controls if possible, so the ipad would be ideal? Quote
grawk Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 yes, the ipad can substitute for the monitor/keyboard/mouse except when there are network problems. I can recommend the dinovo mini keyboard for those occassions, but you'll also need a display of some sort. Quote
blubliss Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I do have a display but it is large and I would like to leave it off while listening to music. Network problems? I do not have an apple router, is this gonna be a problem? I have a CradlePoint MBR1000. Quote
grawk Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 shouldn't be a problem. Just if you lose network, you lose the ability to control it iwth ipad/ipod/iphone Quote
jinp6301 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 iPad to Support USB Audio Interfaces via Camera Connection Kit? - Page 2 - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio For those interested, I picked up an iPad camera connection kit tonight. Plugged in the USB dongle, plugged USB cable into that, mini USB end into the predator, and fired up the iPod app. It works. Very cool-- digital output from the iPad! Quote
jvlgato Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Wow, great! Thanks! Anyone know how to stream Flac to iPad? Quote
jp11801 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I really like the rowmote app, they just updated it for the ipad and it looks much better scaled correct for this screen. I have the Belkin case and I hate that I have to peel back a corner to use my JH13s or after market chargers it is not a great value at $50 imho Quote
