The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Tethering necessarily means jailbreaking, right?
Voltron Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Correct. These are acts that proper lawyers like us would not condone. These country lawyers and their loose ethical standards. Really.
The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I don't believe in angering my benevolent fascist Apple overlords.
The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 jailbreaking takes 1 minute What are the disadvantages, if any (aside from your family being cursed by Jobs for a thousand years)?
jinp6301 Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I dont know if its the same with the itouch and the iphone but when you restart (full shutdown) your itouch after its been jailbroken, you have to have a computer to boot it up also, no warranty if you brick it while jailbroken and can't take advantage of apple updates right away
tyrion Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I don't believe in angering my benevolent fascist Apple overlords. Listen to Al. You wouldn't want to lower yourself to my level. Pay the $130 and $20/ month foe the 3G for those very few timews you will need it Really.
jinp6301 Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 for me, running apps in the background made jailbreaking worth it
tyrion Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I dont know if its the same with the itouch and the iphone but when you restart (full shutdown) your itouch after its been jailbroken, you have to have a computer to boot it up also, no warranty if you brick it while jailbroken and can't take advantage of apple updates right away Not with the iPhone. That is not to say there aren't glitches every so often but nothing that is a big deal. If your iPhone has been upgraded to the latest software then jail breaking is not an option at this time. Once your warranty is up there are no issues. Jail breaking is completely reversible with a restore. Being able to run apps in the background is a big deal for me. I would love that option with the iPad.
The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Wait, Mike, i thought your iPad was jailbroken?
The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Ah, I see. Then how does the iPad "see" it? Also, how does it work with Shelly's pre?
The Monkey Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I guess I didn't realize the Pre could be used for this purpose. So could I use my Verizon Eris with an unjailbroken iPad?
grawk Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 yup dinny, you can. Any wifi connection works.
tyrion Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Wait, Mike, i thought your iPad was jailbroken? Just my iPhone. There is no jailbreak for the iPad yet. Dinny, the only way to tether with the iPad is for the iPad to think the other device is a wifi connection. With my MacBook I can do a USB tether or Bluetooth tether. Edited April 4, 2010 by tyrion

tyrion Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 wait, so jailbreaking the iphone doesnt require a tethered start up? It doesnt require you to run blackra1n everytime you start up? I'm pretty sure I used blackra1n for my jailbreak. My iPhone starts up after shut down like it did before the jailbreak.

Grahame Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 fucking technology. Not so magical now, eh? Or to invoke Gregory Benford's Corollary to Clarke's Third Law* The phrase you were looking for was "insufficiently advanced" technology. *Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

jinp6301 Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 nah. I did it right. it seems that the itouch 3g cant have untethered jailbreak yet
