The Monkey Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 And the Apple Store appears to be up, so it doesn't seem like anything cool will be set free today.
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 No 3G... really? Unless they allow people to wirelessly tether this to an iPhone or other device this thing is all but worthless for most people... especially any business person that travels or anyone that is on the road for the matter. My guess is that they will speak to this in just a few minutes.
Dash Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Why not just call it the iKotex? Hate the name.
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Yes. iBooks. This bit looks right! Agreed, but Amazon cannot be happy unless they're a silent partner.
manaox2 Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 The deal breaker for certain for me will be whether it can host external devices (hard drives, keyboards, monitors, etc.).
Salt Peanuts Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Yes. iBooks. This bit looks right! Unfortunately, the screen (LCD) still sucks for reading. Maybe they'll be doing some pixie dust treatment on the screen to make it better. EDIT - Of course, the fact e-book function is there with EPUB made it more likely that I may actually consider this device now.
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 There you go GE, it has 3G. 250MB/mo = $14.99 Unlimited = $29.99 Again, fucking AT&T, but without the contract.
Hopstretch Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Good news, cheap 3G. Bad news, AT&T. Good news, pay as you go. Bad news, AT&T.
Grand Enigma Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Cool... so now you can pay monthly fees for mobile broadband, your cell phone, and this? I want to see this do something my netbook cant.
manaox2 Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I don't use AT&T, but I have heard bad things about its 3G service and data plans. What does unlimited actually mean to AT&T? This seems like a great deal for laptops at this price if you could work that out.
Hopstretch Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Micro-SIMs. What is it with Apple and nonstandard peripherals?
GPH Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Sounds like a fine data plan for Americans, we'll get ripped out here as always. The iPad leaves me pretty cold so far...
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Pricing... Wifi $499 16GB $599 32GB $699 64GB w/ 3G add $130 to each Shipping in 60 days for wifi, 90 days for 3G.
Hopstretch Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 $499! Sold to the tall guy with the hard-on!
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Heh. Apple stock just went nuts. I love how it bombed at 1:30.
Grand Enigma Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) Still haven't made it back up to the pre-hype level yet. 90 days for the 3G is ouch but I understand why they did it as they didn't want anything to leek from the FCC filings.... but they are going to lose a lot of the impulse buys this way. Hopstretch Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 It will. They're going to sell a metric ass-ton of these.
penger Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Market as a whole is negative too. That can't be helping.
n_maher Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 It will. They're going to sell a metric ass-ton of these. I agree. This thing basically does everything that I use my $1300 Macbook for.
