crappyjones123 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 currently looking at acer aspire one (aod250). can be had from sams club for $294. i dont HAVE to spend the above mentioned amount. also cant find any real information about the differences between the z-series chips and the n-series chips except for just a different in the bus speeds. anyone actually know more about them? requirements (things i would like to have) windows xp/linux (NO VISTA. under no conditions) < 3 lbs battery should hold charge for at least 2.5 hours. (heavier laptop is ok if battery lasts longer) fanless would be nice but active cooling is ok as long as its not too loud. color must be black. dont want a fingerprint magnet but if its cheap ill live with it. dont care for hdd size/gpu etc. netbook will only be used at school for doing math shit/open office/internet. basically either all this or i just save for another month and get a lenovo x200. any thoughts/suggestions?

crappyjones123 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 thanks to both ^ a quite nicely configured x200 can be had for $1100. dont know if the netbook is worth the money at this point...perhaps ill wait for back to school sales. maybe i can catch something cheaper at best buy (have $250 in gift cards for there so trying to stick to it).
Absorbine_Sr Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I've got an original Eee PC I need to get rid of. 1GB ram, 4GB SSD. I've added an 8GB flash drive. I need to reload the original Linux on it, and unfortunately it's white. But I'll let it go for $100. It was used lightly and looks new. Give me a shout if you're interested.
crappyjones123 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 thanks for the offer absorbine but i have very fat fingers. 7" will probably far too tight for even pecking. thanks though.

digger945 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I guess if you've checked Sam's then you've checked Walmart also. They have some sub $370 XP stuff. I'm not a netbook guru but it looks like for just a skosh more you can get a perty good book for not too much dough.
crappyjones123 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 ive decided to wait until the apple netbook surfaces or black friday whichever comes first. should either drive the price of netbooks down or get me a reduction in price of a x200 (hopefully i can get it with a 3 year warranty by that time for under 1k)
GPH Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 ive decided to wait until the apple netbook surfaces or black friday whichever comes first. I'd be very surprised if Apple sells a netbook for less than 370$, or even 500$ for that matter. If they do, it'll probably be a crippled version of OS X or something, because it'd kill their laptop maket otherwise. I'd buy a cheap netbook and Hackintosh it if you really want OS X.

Asr Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Dell recently came out with two new netbooks, Mini 10 and Mini 10v. The 10v is $299. Link here: Dell Mini Netbooks: Colorful, Small, Light Weight
