linuxworks Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 lcd2? already? I want one!! I missed out on lcd1. gotta have the -2 version now (lol). the top headband isn't appealing but the rest look ok to me. I would change out the bare (sharp?) metal earcup supports or at least cover them somehow. it does not look 'touch friendly'. but the wood cups and leather (?) parts are a nice improvement over the lcd1.
n_maher Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Did they use the same great-big-pile-of-fail cable as the first version?
mypasswordis Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Did they use the same great-big-pile-of-fail cable as the first version? Are you offering your services (paid, of course) to the poor future-owners of the LCD-2, if with said pile of fail cable?
n_maher Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Are you offering your services (paid, of course) to the poor future-owners of the LCD-2, if with said pile of fail cable? Not really, no. It'd just be a shame if they didn't learn that lesson from the first version.
morphsci Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Not really, no. It'd just be a shame if they didn't learn that lesson from the first version. Yep, I thought the cable was no big deal at first, but my perceived amount of fail increases with each use.
dBel84 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 this is probably not common knowledge but the stock cable on the lcd1 does not use the shield as a shield. The 2 signal wires are tied together as the positive and the shield is used as a ground signal. The cable itself is heavy, although flexible, it retains some of its prior shape and even in my short use, managed to continually twist upon itself - so agreed on all fronts, the original cable is a serious faux pas ..dB
linuxworks Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 is this cable worse than, say, the denon d2000 cable? THAT one sucks dead donky dick. so to speak
swt61 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 just when you thought it was safe to play in the woods, along comes little red riding hood to tempt you deeper ..dB Holy shit that's awesome, except for the headband. Can't wait for impressions + info on cost. The enclosures look very nice and hopefully they will sound even better than the LCD-1. The headband is definitely fugly and see some upgrade options with it. Much easier than upgrading the enclosure. Is it just me, or does the woodwork (finishing) and the overstuffed Denon pads look familiar? Dear God please set our minds at ease, that they did not outsource to Lawton Audio! If not, then I'm interested. I'm curious as to how they compare to your memory of the Donuts, if you would be so kind as to oblige. I'll be happy to compare. My memory of the Donuts is still pretty vivid.
luvdunhill Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 <awaits e-mail> whoever gets details first, post or ban.
morphsci Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 You'll probably have to wait until after RMAF. I bought mine used, so likely I will not get an email, so no ban for me (at least for this).
Smeggy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 damn n bugger!! They do look comfy though. The wood does look a bit rough so Lawton may well be involved. The pads do look like the Denons. Hopefully not as that'll really push up the price. I'm glad that they went the route of pre-war crystal headset design though, very retro and very functional, I like.
Smeggy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 ummm.. *checks wallet quick* *finds moths*
Icarium Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 Well in reminding them to send me out the foam so I can get the loaner program finally off the ground they mentioned the LCD-2s are two weeks out... so maybe I'll have both to send out ;p
Guest sachu Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 *finds moths* quite true.. only enough for a couple of drivers.. oh well, i know of someone in seattle who makes some awesome wooden cups for those drivers. Better get him to start cracking on these before the pig flu does him in!
luvdunhill Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Well in reminding them to send me out the foam so I can get the loaner program finally off the ground they mentioned the LCD-2s are two weeks out... so maybe I'll have both to send out ;p ask about the upgrade price too
bjarnetv Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 ummm.. *checks wallet quick* *finds moths* *desperately tries to make money on moths* having my money potentialy ending up in lawton audio's pocket doesnt sound too good, but i do like their luxurious 70s style. make mine gold please
Smeggy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I bet these sound killer. Will have to find extra cash from somewhere.
cetoole Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Fark, those look promising! I agree that I am not wild on the headband, but the cups and pads look very promising. I wonder if they are just using the Jmoney denon pads for it? I am definitely going to have to hear this one, just hope it isnt too much more than the LCD-1.
atothex Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Denon pads FTW. Everything else looks a bit rough...
DefectiveAudioComponent Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 ( what horrible deed did Lawton Audio do to some poor piece of wood earlier? I must have missed that episode ) The LCD-2 does look cool. I wonder if the leather pads increase bass at the cost of highs/headstage. If not then I'll need to grow a bigger wallet.
Dreadhead Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Hmmm those look rather promising I would say. IF you do have them Dan make sure to send both out
Smeggy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I wish they'd put me out of my misery and let me know by how much I can't afford them I actually like the semi steampunk look of them and think they'll be rather comfy. it's only a matter of price and whether they sound fantabulous or not. Will wait with bated breath for impressions and reviews as it'll certainly be a while before I can get a set of my own.
Kabeer Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 WOWs! this was sooner than I expected... I wasnt sure about the headband. But I like the way it still has that kind of retro Engineer design look it. The cups look good and the pads look like they are v.comfy (if they are anything like Denon pads then deffo. I wonder what the price is.....
