luvdunhill Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I was thinking of Mundorf silver/gold/oil I'm assuming these would be for the Pearl? Things get a lot more expensive in the balanced world where you need double. I'd recommend looking at your signal chain and trying to go as low as you can with the caps, to save you some cash.
DigiPete Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 yeah for the Pearl. what do you think 4.7uf for the output caps? are there others to upgrade in the signal path?
luvdunhill Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 yeah for the Pearl. what do you think 4.7uf? sure why not. Either guess, or calculate things. I'd try some Black Gate N/NX as well... and the Russian teflon bypasses with the M-Caps that were included in your kit. Have fun with it
DigiPete Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 Interstage in the Pearl or K&K. ?? speak semi understandable (to mech engineers) english
cetoole Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 There is a coupling capacitor between the input stage and output stage on both of those phono preamps. Also, the RIAA filter caps certainly impact the signal. Heck, the PS caps do too.
DigiPete Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 on the Pearl , what would you suggest
cetoole Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 That depends how anal you want to get. The filter and interstage caps look like FKP panasonics, which is good enough for me, but might not be for you. If you really want to get into it, every single cap would need to go.

Do tell... what would the perfectionist want, and why? Here is another shot while under construction
cetoole Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 That, of course, depends on your flavor of perfectionist.
guzziguy Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 It looks to be nicely built. The power supply is on standoffs and the IEC ground is connected to the chassis.
DigiPete Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 I heard the modwright phono yesterday, and it got me looking into a phono stage upgrade.
DigiPete Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 I think they are used in the amplification modules as current regulating diodes...
