Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I told him that in chat, Chris Thanks for standing up for me Dan
jp11801 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Thanks for standing up for me Dan You have a low threshold for being stood up for...
Sherwood Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I've always been a douche if that's what you call being a douche But, as Dan and I discussed in chat, you're "our" douche Something to be said for that.
Voltron Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Just thought I'd update this: A friend of mine in CA contacted Amarra directly, as he was interested in using it with his Alpha DAC. It does definitely work with the optical digital output. Apparently I forgot to follow up with a post, but I asked Sonic and they said that they did add that capability in the last couple months. Thanks for posting the correct info.

tyrion Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 The Sonic Studio DAC is tempting. Dew et.
Dreadhead Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Dew et. QFT. Those things look sweet. Metric Halo may be another option too.
jp11801 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 QFT. Those things look sweet. Metric Halo may be another option too. The Metric Halo ULN-2 is the bargain of the century for $1700 (without the DSP installed) $$2400 with DSP. You'll only need the DSP if you plan to use it as a phono pre, want to mess around with EQ or plan on recording stuff with it. Great DAC but Dinny you've gone this far, sell off your DAC harem and get a ULN-8.
n_maher Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I wonder if it's worth supplying the ULN-2 with better power?
VPI Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 You can order the OLN-2 with "creamy Jensen Transformer goodness" from their website. I thought about getting one of these to take firewire from the Mac Mini and into my chosen DAC via AES/EBU.
tyrion Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I wonder if it's worth supplying the ULN-2 with better power? I power mine off the firewire port of my mac mini. There is an ability to use a separate ps, probably a walwart, not sure as mine did not come with one.

There is an ability to use a separate ps, probably a walwart, not sure as mine did not come with one. The specs say that it can take 9V-30V DC for a power supply, if I end up with a spare sigma11 I'll try to configure it appropriately and then one of you can take the Pepsi
jp11801 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I wonder if it's worth supplying the ULN-2 with better power? yes, please get to work on it :jbl::jbl: seriously I'd take one of your bullet proof power supplies as I swear they made the apogee mini dac moar better

VPI Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) For those of you waiting for Version 1.1. It has been released and seems to be playing ALAC just fine in my system. Also added digital volume controls to the Mini. Amarra Computer Music Player Edited October 31, 2009 by VPI
Hopstretch Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 And they added QB-9 qualification. Hmmm. Do, or do not? I know there's a much cheaper Mac-focused "Amarra killer" in the pipeline right now, but with software that could mean it's still a year out.

Hopstretch Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 Mike, it's still nudge-nudge wink-wink at this point, but my understanding is it'll be using the Wave Editor/Izotope platform. Based on their other stuff, I'd expect it to kick Amarra's ass in terms of application design. Which, let's be honest, is not hard. Amarra is butt ugly and chews through RAM like Dinny goes through DACs. How it will sound, of course, is another question entirely. But Wave Editor is $80, so they've got plenty of room to undercut Amarra Mini, let alone the full Amarra suite.
Hopstretch Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 GTFO! This is a software thread.
VPI Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I know it is probably just in my head but I think the new version might actually sound better than the previous version.
