Nanoha Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Hi guys, I've recently been thinking about having a DIY DAC built, but the only one I know is the Alien USB DAC (or Guzzler's for that matter). What other DIY USB DACs are around? And secondly, how good is the Alien DAC? Cheers, Nanoha Quote
Mister X Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 There are several DIY USB DACs out there. USB DAC-201 http://www.audiodiylab.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=72 Haggerman chime: http://www.hagtech.com/chime.html Haggerman HagUSB: http://www.hagtech.com/hagusb.html Scott Nixon's USB Dackit: http://www.scott-nixon.com/dac.htm Of course the Alien DAC: http://www.myexposition.com/diy/usbdac/overview.html And a few others I am forgetting. As far as how good the Alien DAC is: It's not something you would use to drive headphones directly but other then that it's pretty OK. Quote
philodox Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 'Pretty OK' huh? Is the USB DAC-201 much better? It is comparible price wise. Quote
Mister X Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 'Pretty OK' huh? I will let you be the judge of that. Quote
philodox Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Well, I haven't done any critical listening yet, but it is a BIG step up from my onboard sound. I think that once I replace the EXTREMELY crappy potentiometer in my T Amp I will be in pretty good shape for my modest computer audio setup. Quote
Nanoha Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 Gah, this reminds me. I forgot to reply to MisterX's PM. I need him to build me a Alien DAC. Quote
