Chekhonte Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Have any of you downloaded it yet? It handles complex code really well and loads pages fast. I'm really liking it.
tkam Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Been using it since the first beta came out. It's a substantial improvement over the snails pace of page loading that was firefox 3.
deepak Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 This is the biggest upgrade in browsing speed I've experienced. I'm pleasantly surprised.
CD44hi Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 much faster indeed! I never seen a change this drastic since the times of mosaic
tkam Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 It's really not that fast overall, compared to say Chrome, Safari 4 or Opera 10. But yeah if firefox 3 is your only comparison point then it's a ton faster.
CD44hi Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 well, it seems extremely faster in my case as I don't use any other browser
Chekhonte Posted July 1, 2009 Author Report Posted July 1, 2009 Yeah I only use firefox as well so it seems a ton faster to me as well. I didn't like Opera for reasons that I can't remember and chrome still won't scroll up for me with my laptops touchpad for some goofy reason. IE has been simplified to a Wii game level which I don't like.
Hopstretch Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 It pains my fanboy soul to say it, but Safari 4 has been weirdly flaky for me recently and I've been using FF more and more often.
Cankin Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 It's really not that fast overall, compared to say Chrome, Safari 4 or Opera 10. But yeah if firefox 3 is your only comparison point then it's a ton faster. really? FF3.5 is faster than Chrome on my Vista laptop and about as fast as Safari 4, I haven't tried Opera 10 yet, but Opera 9.6 is really slow from my experience.
Torpedo Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Just installed it. Seems faster than FF3, but not that fast, for your comments I expected the astonishing speed of Chrome, which I don't use for other reasons. Good update anyway, thanks for the heads up.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Am I being obtuse? Where are the installation instructions for Linux? What am I supposed to run, updater?
JBLoudG20 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Am I being obtuse? Where are the installation instructions for Linux? What am I supposed to run, updater? yum preupgrade until you hit F11.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Okay, Billy, now disengage the plugin and speak English.
JBLoudG20 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Okay, Billy, now disengage the plugin and speak English. Very corny redhat/fedora joke.
Fitz Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Am I being obtuse? Where are the installation instructions for Linux? What am I supposed to run, updater? Switch to ArchLinux then type "pacman -Sy firefox"
deepak Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Since upgrading, I have noticed FF3.5 crashes a lot more than 3 (which seldom, if never crashed). It's not a big deal since it reopens all the tabs within seconds. I suspect this is just due to one website which I usually have open.
guzziguy Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I had lots of problems with 3 crashing. The problem turned out to be an add-on. Sorry, I can't remember which one it was. I haven't had a single crash since I upgraded to 3.5. You might want to start disabling add-ons to see if one of them is causing the problem.
deepak Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) I have smooth scroll and Adblock Plus. Edited July 11, 2009 by deepak
guzziguy Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I have neither of them. After thinking more about it, I think it was the Skype add-on that was giving me the problem. Obviously that add-on is not your problem, but you can easily disable your add-ons to see which, if either, is causing your crashes.
Torpedo Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 FF 3 used to crash when closing for the Spanish spellchecker. No such problem with 3.5, it works very well here.
uberburger101 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Just installed it. Seems to be marginally faster and with that new tab button, but other than that I can't really tell what's the difference.
uberburger101 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I take it back. It's much faster than version 3.
Chekhonte Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 One bonus I've noticed with 3.5 is that the spell check seems to work past the 6 mark barrier. With three spell check seemed to stop working once I typed more than a couple of paragraphs.
