Genetic
(...) and force a pill down his throat. I've become his worst enemy in his opinion, I hate being the villain, it makes me glad that I don't have any children as I'm actually depressed by my cat hating my guts. I had some similar experiences with the pill thing. Since my relation with the ''new emperor'' was fragile ( an homless cat ) I have decided, if this wrestling with my cat comes again on my agenda, this will no longer be something I'll do myself. There's many excellent vet. technicians who can and will do this for a small fee. Amicalement

Dusty Chalk
Sympathies, I know exactly what you're going through. Also, cats can sense what you're feeling and thinking. If you anticipate that he will hate it, he will hate it. Try thinking and saying out loud, "it's for your own good", &c. My cat has actually gotten better about receiving his medication (liquid) over the course of the last week. I think the part that he hated the most was me manhandling him, and realized if he struggled less, I'd manhandle him less. Also, I don't feed him until after, and give him treats after as well (he loves Pounce).
Chekhonte
now that his foot isn't oozing puss he's getting a lot more mellow with the pill thing. After he swallows the pill he'll lay in my lap and let me pet him and he purrs.
Dusty Chalk
Yay. Yeah, they're pretty forgiving creatures.
swt61
Glad to hear he's getting better, and in a better mood. My cat slept on my feet all night, after I was gone for one night. The cat on my feet, and the dog next to my face...not a lot of REM, but kind of cool anyway.
Dusty Chalk
Yeah, there's something heartwarming about having an animal against you when you sleep (or try to).
CarlSeibert
When Enigma used to go outside and get in fights - which she often lost - it seemed that antibiotics worked really fast to clear up the inevitable infection. That's the good news. The bad news was that it's really important to finish the whole course of pills, which means more opportunity for fantastic kitty-vs-pill mayhem. I think they understand that we take care of them. On some level, I think they appreciate the concern that drives us to commit our various tortures like pills and claw trimming. Hopstretch
From "Jubilate Agno" (1758 - 1763) For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry. For he is the servant of the Living God, duly and daily serving him. For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his way. For is this done by wreathing his body seven times round with elegant quickness. For then he leaps up to catch the musk, which is the blessing of God upon his prayer. For he rolls upon prank to work it in. For having done duty and received blessing he begins to consider himself. For this he performs in ten degrees. For first he looks upon his forepaws to see if they are clean. For secondly he kicks up behind to clear away there. For thirdly he works it upon stretch with the forepaws extended. For fourthly he sharpens his paws by wood. For fifthly he washes himself. For sixthly he rolls upon wash. For seventhly he fleas himself, that he may not be interrupted upon the beat. For eighthly he rubs himself against a post. For ninthly he looks up for his instructions. For tenthly he goes in quest of food. For having considered God and himself he will consider his neighbor. For if he meets another cat he will kiss her in kindness. For when he takes his prey he plays with it to give it a chance. For one mouse in seven escapes by his dallying. For when his day's work is done his business more properly begins. For he keeps the Lord's watch in the night against the adversary. For he counteracts the powers of darkness by his electrical skin and glaring eyes. For he counteracts the Devil, who is death, by brisking about the life. For in his morning orisons he loves the sun and the sun loves him. For he is of the tribe of Tiger. For the Cherub Cat is a term of the Angel Tiger. For he has the subtlety and hissing of a serpent, which in goodness he suppresses. For he will not do destruction if he is well-fed, neither will he spit without provocation. For he purrs in thankfulness when God tells him he's a good Cat. For he is an instrument for the children to learn benevolence upon. For every house is incomplete without him, and a blessing is lacking in the spirit. For the Lord commanded Moses concerning the cats at the departure of the Children of Israel from Egypt. For every family had one cat at least in the bag. For the English Cats are the best in Europe. For he is the cleanest in the use of his forepaws of any quadruped. For the dexterity of his defense is an instance of the love of God to him exceedingly. For he is the quickest to his mark of any creature. For he is tenacious of his point. For he is a mixture of gravity and waggery. For he knows that God is his Saviour. For there is nothing sweeter than his peace when at rest. For there is nothing brisker than his life when in motion. For he is of the Lord's poor, and so indeed is he called by benevolence perpetually
drp
Favorite poem, ever: "Ode to Spot" by Lieutenant Commander Data Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature, An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature. Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses. I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations, A singular development of cat communications That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection. A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents. You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance. And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion, It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion. Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array, And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend. Guest sacd lover
I rescued a kitten when I was coming home from skating. She was in the middle of a busy street trying to follow two teenagers. I stopped to tell the kids their cat was following them .... but the kitten wasnt their cat. If I didnt take the kitten she would have been roadkill. But, this cat has turned out to be one of the most personable and affectionate animals I have ever had. Despite being barely weaned she is fearless and sits on both dogs and insists on laying with Hercules despite his resistance.

Guest sacd lover
I still have not decided on a name her. I found her after skating so I thought about K2 but scrapped that one. She doesnt meow she squeaks .... Squeaky seems appropriate. She is so fearless and just takes control I thought about "Queenie". Any thoughts or suggestions for a name? Dusty Chalk
We actually have a Squeaky in our neighborhood, and for the exact same reason -- she seems to have lost her voice, and squeaks on those few occasions that she has something to say. But she's a huntress that kills, so has no need to communicate most of the time. (PS I love that cat. I'd take her in, but (a) she already has an owner, and ( I'd be afraid for my other kitties.) Rorschach? Sounds like a male name, so not that serious a suggestion, but her colorings remind me of a Rorschach test (and therefore of Rorschach's mask). She is so fearless and just takes control I thought about "Queenie". Vicki? (Meant with all respect, of course.)
