EdipisReks1 Posted March 8, 2022 Report Posted March 8, 2022 (edited) Problem solved. She immediately noticed that I removed the free weights and tape and then triumphantly attempted closet entry. Kitty disappointment was the result. I’m smart enough to have these at my shoulder level on affected closet doors: I think she could get the latches open if they were easily accessible. She’s a SMART cat. Edited March 8, 2022 by EdipisReks1 1
EdipisReks1 Posted March 8, 2022 Report Posted March 8, 2022 (edited) And yes: she can easily jump to my shoulder level. But she also isn’t a member of the Sardaukar equipped with an anti-gravity belt, so she doesn’t linger at that elevation. She is not happy, though. Edited March 8, 2022 by EdipisReks1

EdipisReks1 Posted March 10, 2022 Report Posted March 10, 2022 I have put out a feeler (it’s just a feeler), for a 6 year old male Tux. He’s still in intro medical at the shelter, but I’m hoping to meet him. “Tommy Ten Toes.” That name is a thing. I can’t say I hate it. Silver and I need another cat. I’ve been working with her on stimulus (playing more, and holding her more, and introducing her to slightly unexpexred things), and I’m hoping introducing another cat at her home will work. This isn’t something that will happen tomorrow. 2
EdipisReks1 Posted March 10, 2022 Report Posted March 10, 2022 I have decided that with dealing with my mother and her upcoming hip surgery it would be selfish of me to bring a new cat into my home when I may not be able to provide the amount of time that cats deserve. I hope Tommy Ten-Toes goes to a good home. I’ll figure something out a bit down the road. 1
Craig Sawyers Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 You'll get a pal for Silver in due course. I hope your ma's hip surgery goes well. I know a few people who have had this done, and say it transforms their lives. 2
EdipisReks1 Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 Gosh I hope that is the case here. My mom needs a win.
EdipisReks1 Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 I brought a broth for Silver. Chicken broth. “100% human grade ingredients.” Good thing, because if this is going to be consumed it’s going to have to be by me, cuz she don’t like it.
EdipisReks1 Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) Tommy Ten-Toes was adopted, but there is a 1 year old Tux who just came into the SPCA, and I think we are ready for a new cat now. I have been working with Silver on new stimulation. Heather just got a puppy, who will be here soon anyway. I will rename him “Oatmeal Johnny” if I can get him (I think I will be able to). I had a dream once in which I had a cat named “Oatmeal Johnny.” This cat feels like an “Oatmeal Johnny.” If somebody else called dibs already, so be it, but I have a good feeling. And she organized it while she was in Australia - from https://www.bluecross.org.uk/oxfordshire-burford-rehoming-centre . She couldn't have chosen a better cat. He's super affectionate and after two days is now exploring the house She has a motto in her bedroom "A home without a cat is just a house". In Australia she has three cats , and a dog. Two are indoor cats, and the outdoor one is a murder specialist. Possums are found on their decking minus heads. They have no idea where the heads go (probably best not to ask). He once tackled a goanna (these grow up to 6 feet long); the lizard won and resulted in a big vet's bill to repair the cat. That hasn't discouraged him, clearly. I just looked up Australian Possum, which I thought you spelled wrong. It's much cuter than the American Opossum. Maybe it's the missing 'O' that makes it more friendly looking? As scrappy as the Opossum looks, the fur is amazingly lush feeling. 3
EdipisReks1 Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 Oatmeal Johnny is mine. $5 deposit put down. 18 minutes ago, swt61 said: I just looked up Australian Possum, which I thought you spelled wrong. I had a big opossum scratching at my door about a week ago. I think it smelled cat food. It ambled off when it saw me, when I opened the door, but not quickly. I like opossums a lot. 4
swt61 Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 I had a short tailed Opossum as a pet once. They are a marsupial, but not sure if they're a true Opossum? A great pet though, even for beginners. I trained mine to use a small litter box quite easily. They're very clean, healthy, friendly and omnivores, so easy to feed as well. I fed mine a main diet of dry cat food, but also fed it earth worms, fruits and other snacks. It was as personable as my African pygmy Hedgehog. Both were really fun pets. 4 1
EdipisReks1 Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 Deposit accepted on future Oatmeal Johnny. The deposit is $5. Heather’s new puppy’s deposit was $600. Cats, man. 2
EdipisReks1 Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 Somebody is acclimating. Hopefully Silver follows suit (they are currently segregated but are aware the other exists: Oatmeal Johnny just wants to be friends! Silver… does not). 1 1
EdipisReks1 Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 (edited) I knew this cat had strong Maine Coon characteristics, but I’m fairly certain that Oatmeal Johnny is a purebred cat. He conforms perfectly. Except he’s a little too small (he’s a big cat, but not a big Maine Coon). What a dork, too! Not that it matters (Silver was feral, and Dunhill was more tumor than man at the end), but I don’t quite know why you would surrender a pedigreed juvenile (he isn’t quite fully grown, I do think). If he doesn’t gain another pound he will be a runt. That could very well be why. He’s easily the largest cat I’ve ever had. And maybe the sweetest. I like cats. Edited April 21, 2022 by EdipisReks1 2
EdipisReks1 Posted April 25, 2022 Report Posted April 25, 2022 Silver and Oatmeal Johnny are coexisting. He has figured out that Silver is mostly bark and little bite. She produces very resigned-sounding hisses, especially when they are both on the bed with me at night. Oatmeal Johnny is a wonderful cat. I got lucky. 2

Yumi really wants to get one but I’m pretty sure our male cat Tuve will kill then. Edited April 26, 2022 by shellylh 1
Dusty Chalk Posted April 26, 2022 Author Report Posted April 26, 2022 I was pretty sure Kikik (kitten) was going to eviscerate Bobby (senior), but she didn't. 1
Craig Sawyers Posted April 26, 2022 Report Posted April 26, 2022 Couldn't resist posting this - what cats think 7
EdipisReks1 Posted May 4, 2022 Report Posted May 4, 2022 I think this cat was genetically engineered to be cute. I just wish he didn’t spend 14 hours a day asleep under my couch. 4
en480c4 Posted May 4, 2022 Report Posted May 4, 2022 (edited) Well, we decided to add kitty #3. Penelope never really got over losing Koshka a few years back, and while she loves our cats, they didn’t really bond with her. She’s a couple of years older and a little more cat-savvy now, so we thought it’s the right time. 8 month old just up from GA. P and the new addition (name TBD): And the requisite shot of the meezers: Yes, they’re this cute all the time So far Nutella and Marshmallow are intrigued by whatever is behind the door, but they don’t seem too put off. We’ll be patient with introductions to avoid rocking the boat too much. Edit: She’s a doll. Edited May 5, 2022 by en480c4 8 1
