tyrion
I know nothing about classical music. I've picked up the following albums over the last few years at local record sales thinking I would try to get into classical. I've been listening to the local classical station and I'm trying to get into it but it's a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I'm curious if what I have is good in terms of whether those of you that are into classical would say, that's a great, good, bad, whatever version. I hope that makes sense. Mozart Symphony No.40/Hayden Symphony No.45 "Farewell" London Symphony - Antal Dorati Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields' Chamber Ensemble - Mendelssohn: Octet Op.20 String Quintet Op.87 Bruch Violin Concerto No.3, Op.58 Adagio Appassionato, Op.57/romance, Op.42 Salvatore Accoardo Gewandhaus Orchestra, Leipzig - Kurt Masur Dvorak Syphony No.2 Moteux/London Symphony Orchestra Mozart Symphony No.41 in C major, K.551 "Jupiter" Symphony No.39 in E-Flat Major K.543 Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt London Symphony Orchestra Tschaikowsky - Violin Concerto Heifetz Reiner - Chicago Symphony Tchaikovsky - Symphony no.5 Antal Dorati - London Symphony The Vienna of Johann Strauss - Vienna Philharmonic Herbert Von Karajan Tchaikovsky - Serenade For String Orchestra Rimsky-Korsakov Suite From Le Coq D'or Phihamonica Hungarica - London Symphony Antal Dorati Sibelius - Symphony No.2 Monteux - London Symphony Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 Boston Symphony/Charles Munch Beethoven Symphony No.4 in B-flat Op.60 - Symphony no.8 in F Major Op.93 Antal Dorati - Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra Rachmaninoff Concerto No.2 Van Cliburn Fritz Reiner Chicago Symphony Ravel Bolero and a bunch of other stuff - Paul Paray Detroit Symphony Orchestra Vladimir Horowitz Fritz Reiner Beethoven/"Emperor" Concerto Moussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition/A Night On Bald Mountain Prokofiev Suite from The Love for Three Oranges Antal Dorati Minneapolis Symphony-London Symphony Mendelssohn Scotch Symphony Scherzo from Octet in E-Flat Munch/Boston Symphony Tchaikovsky 1812 Festival Overture, Op.49 (Original Scoring) Capriccio Italien Antal Dorati Minneapolis Symphony Brass Bronze Canon, Douay, France 1775 Bells of the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial The Riverside Church A lot of it is Mercury Living Presence, RCA Living Stereo If I am going to try to get into this, is this stuff any good. The more I write this the more I realize I should just shut up and listen to it.

aerius
I have a few of the same pieces, but most of my records are Deutsche Grammophon and London labels so I very much doubt we have the same records. Chances are the it's a totally different orchestra & conductor as well.
MASantos
I can't comment on the labels, but the music selection is very nice! Can I recomend this album as a very nice one too? It is my latest aquisition and has been on heavy rotation. The quality of the recording is top notch!
