rogue Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Hallo Thar, I was just wondering whether you guys think it would be worth it to build a Sigma 11 PSU for my M3 (currently I have teh steps). I know that the Sig11 can supply more current and has tighter regulation, but would it make an audible difference?
Fungi Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I thought it was a decent step up from the Elpac wallwart, but I'm not sure how you'll feel about it vs STEPS. If you can DIY it though, probably a good investment. If you don't like it, it's easy enough to sell or reuse on something else.
Pars Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Grawk liked his As said, if you can build it yourself, sigma FTW
n_maher Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I'd be shocked if there was a distinct audible difference between the two supplies. Both are exceptionally low ripple and well designed.
luvdunhill Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I'd be shocked if there was a distinct audible difference between the two supplies. Both are exceptionally low ripple and well designed. I would think the output impedance of the sigma11 would be lower than the STEPS, but what do I know. I've found this to be one of the major differences in the audibility of power supplies.
rogue Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 Thanks, I figured as much. Maybe I'll start on a B22 build instead =0
