grawk Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Apogee Electronics > Products > ONE Mac based, usb sound card with built in microphone, 1/8" headphone/line out. Not for needledrops, but apogee converters for $250 retail. Quote
jp11801 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 for $250 it will probably beat the snot out of stuff in the $200-400 category but I'd still save my paper route money and get the duet. It would be cool for on the go macbook listening as it seems much more compact than the duet. Quote

Currawong Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 The built-in mic is nice. I wonder how good it is. Quote
jp11801 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Netbook running leopard and the apogee ONE could be a great portable/college rig for under $700 all in Quote
grawk Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 The built-in mic is nice. I wonder how good it is. There's a video on apogee's site of ozomatli doing a recording with one, check it out. Quote
IceClass Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I wonder if the internal DAC is as good as the DUET? Quote
aardvark baguette Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 smart move by apogee. Much larger market at that price point, it seems. Quote
jp11801 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I wonder if the internal DAC is as good as the DUET? well it is most likely different given that the duet is 24/96 capable but I am sure they did a great job with it. Quote
grawk Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 well it is most likely different given that the duet is 24/96 capable but I am sure they did a great job with it. I don't think that necessarily follows, it could just be a USB driver choice. All current dacs can do 24/96, so it is probably just the USB reciever. Quote

(HRT MusicStreamer being the one example I can think of -- I think the other was on here [head-case] somewhere.) So the ONE can't? Fail. I'll pass. Too bad it's black. Quote
grawk Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 I was just talking about the dac chips. I'd be shocked if apogee chose to use a dac chip that didn't support 24/96. I'm guessing (and that's all it is at this point, a guess), that the dac portion of the circuit is the same as the duet, it's just that the usb chipset is 16/48 instead of 24/96 to simplify implementation. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Oh, okay, yeah, pretty much all current DAC chips can do 24/96 (isn't that what you said?), I see what you're saying now. Quote
TheCool Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Anyone get a chance to hear one of these yet? If so how do you like it? Quote
TheCool Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I'll be patiently awaiting your impressions . Quote
acidbasement Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Looks like a great little swiss army knife, and it would be a good price if I already had a Mac. A reference quality built-in mic is a neat idea. Quote

penger Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 So they also figured out how to get 24/96 over usb? Or am I misunderstanding the blurb on the apogee website? Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Intro page appears to still say 24/48. Where are you getting 96? Quote
HeadphoneAddict Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Guitar Center wont have them till 9/4 even though the website says 8/21 Quote
penger Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Intro page appears to still say 24/48. Where are you getting 96? Ah yes. 24/48 is what I meant. I thought under normal circumstances USB was limited to 16/48. Quote
