eugenius Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Here's an interesting new pro headphone amplifier, hand made in Serbia: BoZo Electronics - Sparrow It has very good specs !!! For the amplifier gurus here, a question: how does it compare with the beta22? Pics:
JBLoudG20 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 If no one has heard it, how the FUCK would we know how to compare it to a Beta Deuce Deuce? It looks very well made, though.
eugenius Posted June 15, 2009 Author Report Posted June 15, 2009 Ok, two very good points made so far ...
n_maher Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I sure hope it provides more than 22db of attenuation and a greater range than that. Otherwise I don't quite get offering balanced inputs and only SE outputs. Otherwise I could do with, uh, 5 fewer front panel switches.
Pars Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 The beta22 is fully discrete and has a much higher power output, much better PSU, etc. Although for a pro unit this doesn't look like a bad little amp, architecturally it isn't in the same ballpark with a beta22. Good specs are pretty easy to achieve with opamps running with negative feedback. I agree with the balanced in/SE out comment as well. I can't tell, but is this really fully balanced or does it just convert bal->SE?
luvdunhill Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 The question I have is are all those TO-220 devices regulators? Sure looks like it. That means this is basically a chip amp...
The Monkey Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I sure hope it's better than the Pigeon by Meathead Audio.
spritzer Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I'm with Marc, this is a basic chip amp from the looks of it so the competition is something like the RSA HR-2 or Rudistor, not B22. Interesting volume control though, possibly some vintage USSR stuff?
luvdunhill Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 The TO-220 on the left is a regulator, you can see from the side shot. From the top shot you can see they are all National devices, hence my deduction. The soic devices are probably relay drivers, that would be my guess at least. It could be a double sided PCB I suppose.
eugenius Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 It's 1400 euro ... that's why I wanted a comparison with the beta22.
Duggeh Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 €1400 would buy you a set of Quad electrostatics in fine repair, nevermind that little box of bolts.
kevin gilmore Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 chip amp for sure. Notice that the power input is AC. Therefore the things on the heatsinks have to be regulator chips, 2 for each channel. 5th one is likely a 5 volt regulator to control the switching.

Voltron Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Why are we even engaging in this shill's thread?
Dash Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 I'm waiting for the buckets to throw ping pong balls in.....
eugenius Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 At the very least you saw another amplifier ... I have no relation to the manufacturer. I thought it was like 400-500 euro, like the lake people amps, later I found it's so expensive and I was wondering why ... PS: There's a dismissive attitude towards head-fi here ... I don't see why, you lot are just as bad and stuck up to boot. Get off your high horses, your shit smells the same as everybody's. Serious people and excluded.
guzziguy Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Could it be due to the smiley at the end of the attack? I mean how could you possibly even think of banning eugenius after all that he's contributed to HC?
atothex Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 why do i have a sudden desire to hit that red button? But you didn't do it? A bit uncharacteristic...
spritzer Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Most of us have been on HF for a long time so there is good reason for our attitude. To us you are just like all those noobs on HF which look at the price of a component and think that has any bearing on its performance. To quote Oscar Wilde, "A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing". A version of this should be the HF motto...
Torpedo Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 There're the other kind of noobs who believe they found giant killers everywhere, and praise nonsensically pieces of shitty sounding gear. For instance Little Dot gear which is crap even considering its low prices. There are several dozens of such gear being praised ad nauseam there.

eugenius Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 If that's what it takes to ban a user ... I don't know how you stand such people like "sandwitch around my kidney - crapping monkey" Voltron or "what do you eat - FUCK" JBLoudg20.
