Salt Peanuts Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 As the Monkey said in the other thread, I find myself sadder than I thought I would be - R.I.P., Steve.
The Monkey Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 I only recently read his Stanford speech, and it really resonates with me.

MexicanDragon Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 If you just saw a transcript... RIP, Steve. **BRENT**

blessingx Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Best obit yet: Steve Jobs, 1955 – 2011 | http://ow.ly/1ych8w
episiarch Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 We used to have that Griffin stand (or maybe still do), and the Rain stand is a good deal more secure. A lot more metal to lower its center of gravity, and better retention so the laptop doesn't just slide off. Very much agreed, RIP Steve. A friend reminded me this morning of Christopher Wren's epitaph in London: Reader, if you seek his memorial, look about you.
The Monkey Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Best obit yet: Steve Jobs, 1955 – 2011 | http://ow.ly/1ych8w The wired article was very good. It really was excellent; thanks for posting it, Ric. It's weird, but if anything, I'm feeling MORE sad today and I feel like it will continue for a while. I'm very surprised about how his death is affecting me. Particularly, as I've said before, his reflections on life and death resonate with me in a way I find difficult to articulate.

Not trying to be funny here or anything, but I was just as sad when uncle Frank on Jimmy Kimmel died recently. Since my father in law died 2 months ago I've been more sensitive to other's deaths.
Grahame Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Any death is a tragedy, especially for the bereaved. Some counterpoint to put things into perspective from The Register, and The Onion. The Economist agrees?
morphsci Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Wow that is pretty funny that the only reasonable article of the lot is the one from the Onion.
blessingx Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 The Onions issue after 9/11 was also one of the few levelheaded responses so quickly written. Was in downtown Palo Alto today for an errand. Went by the Apple store there (yes, taken with an iPhone)...
MexicanDragon Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 If you guys didn't see this, Samsung and Google delayed the launch of the Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich out of respect for the passing of S. Jobs. I listened to the almost 2.5 hour live coverage recording from Leo Laporte and the TWiT crew at work today. I was getting a little choked up myself. **BRENT**
grawk Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I think more likely is they delayed based on the iphone 4s and not wanting to get lost in the shuffle. I think the "respect for steve jobs" thing is a PR cover story.

MexicanDragon Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I think you're both a bit naive on this point. **BRENT**
VPI Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I think that would be you Brent. Everyone knows Google has a huge inferiority complex about getting dramatically less attention than iOS. If the nerd phone guys have any marketing people they would be told not to announce at the same time as a phone selling hundreds of thousands on the first day as it would be completely ignored.
The Monkey Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 They're right. In fact, I'll bet their respective (no pun) marketing departments had already modeled this scenario.
morphsci Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Well maybe Samsung is truly sad about where their new design ideas will come from.
Currawong Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Wow that is pretty funny that the only reasonable article of the lot is the one from the Onion. I refrained from reading all the generic obituaries as they are all bland. The more interesting personal commentaries from, for example, Stephen Wolfram, were more interesting. My favorite is definitely The Onion though. 1
