morphsci Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I got the ultimate because the price was close enough I didn't want to worry about it. I'd buy now if I needed it now, if I could wait, I'd wait . I don't think the new one will be a drastic improvement, I think there will be tradeoffs. That said, Apple's surprised me in the past. I went with the maxed model because I did not want to mess with it when I had. Honestly don't know if it makes a difference as I have never even used a 1.4GHz model. For me it was worth it because I roll that way. I also agree with Dan about waiting. If it was me, and I did not need it yesterday, I would wait as there is not a real down side. If they don't update in June, buy it then. If they do update then you have the choice of going with the new model or picking up the prev. model a bit cheaper. But then again I waited for both a Singlepower ES-1 and a BHSE, so I do have a bit of patience.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I'd buy now if I needed it now, if I could wait, I'd wait...This is a good general rule-of-thumb. Decide what you need, allocate a budget, and get what you will when you need to. There's always something new around the corner. I mean, think about 10 years ago -- would you have waited 10 years for what's available now, back then? No, you needed it then, so you got what you could, then.
shellylh Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) As much as I would like to get the Air now, I am going to try and wait (til June... once July arrives, there is no telling what I will do). I did just get a Tom Bihn ID and need something big to carry in it on my next trip. Edited April 22, 2011 by shellylh
Dusty Chalk Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Definitely. Your timeframe has been defined.
grawk Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I wonder if I should sell my mba in preparation
tyrion Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 This is good newas and good timing. Now the question is 11.6" or 13".
Voltron Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 This is good newas and good timing. Now the question is 11.6" or 13". Go small or stay home! Or something like that.
tyrion Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I am leaning that way. I need to make sure that it will run smoothly using Parallels which makes it an office expense instead of a personal expense. Either way I'm in.
Voltron Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Anybody know if Thunderbolt cable is even available now?
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 meh at Intel graphics. Other than that, pretty cool.
morphsci Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) Anybody know if Thunderbolt cable is even available now? I believe that any microUSB cable should work. Like HERE Edited April 22, 2011 by morphsci
grawk Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I'm pretty sure thunderbolt doesn't use a microusb cable. Thunderbolt is closer to mini-displayport, but iwth additional connectors
Voltron Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I believe that any microUSB cable should work. Like HERE Thanks Jim but I meant the Intel Thunderbolt I/O cable that uses the same connector as the mini display port but I think is different cable.
blessingx Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Like this? Just buy one of these and you'll get the cable. More info. Al, what are you trying to do with the cable? Is this for "in wall'?
jinp6301 Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 meh at Intel graphics. Other than that, pretty cool. i thought the sandy bridge integrated graphics were pretty decent?
Voltron Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Just buy one of these and you'll get the cable. More info. Al, what are you trying to do with the cable? Is this for "in wall'? I may well buy the Little Big Disk because it is super cool, but I was indeed talking about in wall cable and that one won't be long enough. LaCie is also doing a larger SSD array that is featured in the earlier TB video and THAT is going to be epic.
The Monkey Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 So I don't understand. The new MBAs will be marginally faster with marginally worse graphics and superthundercats?
tyrion Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 I don't think it's an issue unless you are a gamer.
