TMoney Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 ^ Oh thank god! Trying to get PCs to interface with our Mac file servers at work can be painful. Hopefully things get easier with 10.9. The Mac Pro's lack of PCIe slots is going to send shockwaves through the pro audio and pro video markets. Especially with AVID and Pro Tools customers. I guess they are trying to push everyone towards thunderbolt? Considering that its hard to even find a PC motherboard with thunderbolt on it I wonder if Apple isn't a little too out-in-front on this one.

blessingx Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Alright, let's go, then! Edit: Done. MBA 11" , i5, 8 GB, 256GB Your turn, Ric! Waiting on Amazon to burn some old GCs. Will also allow the head to cool. I guess they are trying to push everyone towards thunderbolt? Considering that its hard to even find a PC motherboard with thunderbolt on it I wonder if Apple isn't a little too out-in-front on this one. Thinking the absence of FW could be the larger shock. Not a mobile machine, so Apple adapters laying around maybe less an issue, but a ton of data moving back and forth on FW drives in those circles. Hopefully on the drive side GoFlex, etc. adapters will also decrease in price. ______________________ Also confuse your friends/co-workers with the Sea Lion wallpaper now.
grawk Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 I like that every other port was replaced with thunderbolt. Especially PCIe. It means legacy people can buy a cage, and new developers just go with TB.
Cankin Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) Will Apple give you a free copy of Mavericks when it's out? My brother is looking at new 13" Air Edit: my question is for those who are getting new Air now Edited June 11, 2013 by Cankin
luvdunhill Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Thinking the absence of FW could be the larger shock Going on memory, I thought the Mac Pro had FW?
grawk Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 tb to fw is $29 adapter, that's not really going to impact anyone when you have 6 tb ports

I meant less the price (except on the drive side where it's often $100), than convenience - where is that adapter again??? Course on a static desktop system likely less an issue than a mobile situation. Still finding a FW800 to FW400 cable or Mini USB to micro adapter is surprisingly difficult where I work. They're here... somewhere... they just get 'borrowed' all the time. Harder to borrow a port. Course we've been through this before, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. The Monkey Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Have we talked about how absolutely fucking awful 'Mavericks' is as a name?
blessingx Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) No, you East Coast city boy. Edited June 12, 2013 by blessingx
morphsci Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Have we talked about how absolutely fucking awful 'Mavericks' is as a name? Agreed. This trend may drive me back to Windows.
morphsci Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Better than OsX Broadway! That is still better than OsX Fresno. 1
Grahame Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 But think how awesome it would be to use OsX Fairfax in Fairfax
luvdunhill Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 At 59:00 in the WWDC they say "6 firewire 2 ports" followed by applause. I didnt look just listened probably a pretty unfortunate slip up?
The Monkey Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 I'm finding myself kind of wanting an 11" MBA. No need for it whatsoever. 2
Voltron Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Save up your pennies for the super cool Mac Pro 2
Dusty Chalk Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Oooh, we should call it the Mac Pro Keg. Also, it won't cool as well sideways. Unless you're in a wind tunnel. I was holding out for OsX Grumpy Cat Okay, now that I would be on board with.
