Torpedo Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Apple releases updates to MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, lowers starting price http://www.tuaw.com/2013/02/13/apple-releases-updates-to-macbook-pro-macbook-air/ There's also a 128GB iPad I didn't know existed. Dinny, get the 15" rMBP if you don't want to use it on a plane or on your own lap for most of the time. For iPad-like use I'd get the 13" or a MBA. Please let us know how ends up the memory issue on your iMac, I'm concerned it's troublesome to boost the memory up to 32GB. No comments about my memory query?
The Monkey Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 I'm thinking about just saying fuck it and standing pat.
The Monkey Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Ok, just spoke to the store again and instead of going through the whole exchange, they'll just do a price adjustment. That's a fine result for me, and an easy move by Apple. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Yeah, that 128GB iPad was introduced 2 weeks ago.
grawk Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 You should swap it for the new 13 dinner 1
The Monkey Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Any particular reason, Dan? The specs are almost identical.
The Monkey Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Went the price adjustment route. Stopped by Grand Central store and was done in about 7 minutes. Refunded $400. I guess when you have eleventy billion in the bank you can afford not to give a shit.
grawk Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 that's a pretty hefty refund, I think I'd have done that too.
The Monkey Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 I like this machine even more now. And it also has my musk on it. Makes it even more desirable. 2
Dusty Chalk Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 Yeah, that's pretty much a no-brainer, win-win solution.

Please let us know how ends up the memory issue on your iMac, I'm concerned it's troublesome to boost the memory up to 32GB. No comments about my memory query? I have read in the past that higher Mhz memory can often be used in a slower RAM bank, but that there are risks that the memory wont sync up properly with the slower RAM slot speed. This was something I recall reading when I could only find 1066 Mhz RAM locally for a Macbook that called for 800Mhz RAM. In the end I just got the proper speed online and didn't try my luck. Otherwise it shouldn't harm the Macbook in any way I can think of other than a kernal panic (i.e. crashes) if the Mac has trouble accessing the RAM. That might leave you with a corrupted hard drive depending on what it's doing when it crashes.
Torpedo Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 Thanks for the reply Larry, it mimics my thoughts, so not really dangerous giving it a try.
blessingx Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 In case anyone is looking for a Thunderbolt dock... http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/15/belkin-thunderbolt-express-dock-pre-order/
Salt Peanuts Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 ^ Really tempting - only if it had another Thunderbolt port.
Salt Peanuts Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 At that point, I'd just buy Apple Thunderbolt monitor.
Knuckledragger Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Meanwhile, in news about slightly larger AAPL products. Do not fuck with me on this, Apple. I swear I will burn 1 Infinite Loop to the ground. 1
morphsci Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 ^ Really tempting - only if it had another Thunderbolt port. You can daisy chain.
Salt Peanuts Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) You can daisy chain. Except that there are very limited number of TB devices that come with multiple ports. Edited February 16, 2013 by Salt Peanuts
morphsci Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Good point, and they're expensive. Both will eventually change hopefully.
Salt Peanuts Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Yeah, but I think we've all been saying that for 2 years now.
archosman Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Da hell? Our work computer does this every time we install something that requires the password. Any ideas?
