Salt Peanuts Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Okay, now it's my bloody left ear that pops out when I smile. As long as I don't smile, it seems like the seal is good. I've emailed JH, we'll see what they say. The noise isolation isn't as good as my etys, but the sound is out of this world. The bass is absolutely fantastic. That sucks regarding your seal. Hopefully, you'll get it deal with quickly. As for mine, they got the new impression for my right ear today (the left year was fine). Hopefully, the second time will be the charm.
MexicanDragon Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 My dad wants to know if JH Audio takes paypal. It's unfortunate that they don't take paypal. Yeah, but my "Dad" likes to use paypal as the headphone slush fund. Not a big deal, yet another reason not to get these. You know... I'm sure a friend of your Dad's would be glad to take a paypal gifted transfer and then shoot over some $$$ to Mr. Harvey in your father's place. Your dad has friends, right? **BRENT**
shellylh Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Yeah, but my "Dad" likes to use paypal as the headphone slush fund. Not a big deal, yet another reason not to get these. Not a reason, just a slight setback.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I'm waiting for the JH23 -- JH13 with built-in amplifier and wireless reception.
jinp6301 Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Cant you buy the kleer thing from sleek audio separately?
The Monkey Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I'm waiting for the JH23 -- JH13 with built-in amplifier and wireless reception. And built in Smyth Realiser. Maybe that's the JH23.1.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Cant you buy the kleer thing from sleek audio separately?I was not aware of that. Not that you could buy it separately, but that it existed at all.
MexicanDragon Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I was not aware of that. Not that you could buy it separately, but that it existed at all. You could always just steal matt's... Think he just got it today, so not really attached to it yet. **BRENT**
NightWoundsTime Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I've had the wireless unit for a while. You'd have to do some rewiring to make it work, but overall the thing is very nice. And yeah you can buy it seperately.
veloaudio Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Listening to mine now Beta won't be set up until tomorrow. Although they sound pretty damn good out of the Stello.
veloaudio Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Those look slick. Thanks! I figured I couldn't go wrong with black and white. I really wish I had these with me earlier today since I spent 6.5 hrs in airports and planes.

The Monkey Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Just in case anyone was wondering, despite appearances to the contrary on teh interwebz at JH Audio, "Deadwood" is very dark brown; whereas, "black" is, well, black. Mind you, I do not care what color these things come in.

Augsburger Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Banana yellow for the Monkey, Shamrock green for the Leprechaun, Legal brief grey.

I've emailed JH, we'll see what they say. Did you send them back for a re-fit or are you keeping them as is? I really wish mine was back from the re-fit.

ojnihs Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Did you send them back for a re-fit or are you keeping them as is? I really wish mine was back from the re-fit. i decided to just keep them, as they fit great if i'm just sitting there listening to them. hope you get your refits back promptly and hopefully your audiologist got the impression right this time.
ojnihs Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 are they too big or too small? you could use some clear nail polish to enlarge the problem areas, if they are too small. they fit fine really. they pop out if i smile really broadly, but if i open my mouth or whatever, they stay put. it's probably the size of the part that goes in my ear canals that's a bit off, but like i said, my face is normally very neutral when listening to music, so there's really no problem. the only problem i've had so far was listening to Car Talk with these in and laughing my ass off.

Did you ever hear back from JH Audio? It would seem that the outer part of the housing (how it fits snugly in the top/bottom of the outer ear) should keep them from popping out from simply smiling. (Do your ears move back when you smile; can you wiggle your ears a lot, and if so, does this also pop them out?). Can see the bore size being an issue only if you took a closed-mouth impression. This is all conjecture, of course, as is my thought that maybe the one ear impression was not the best. I emailed Jerry yesterday, as I had a slight fit issue with the left driver. Fit and seal were decent; I couldn't break the seal with any level of facial gymnastics, but is seemed that the angle of the bore to the housing was slightly off, causing the driver to sit at a slight angle to my ear (top was angled out). If seated flush, it caused a bit of pressure on my lower ear canal and not comfortable like the right (which is like buddah). Was 'almost' acceptable, but if the driver moved during chewing or spontaneous shit-eating grins, would begin to feel too large in the ear and I'd paw at it to readjust. Was also concerned if wearing some kind of ear cover while out in the cold; which would press them flat. I learned my lesson with a less than perfectly fitting Sensa, as I still need to wear the left side not fully seated and still regret (4+ years later) not sending them in for a refit. So, I sent the 13s off yesterday for Jerry to take a look at; he'll call when they're in his hands. All in all, they were oh-so-close and refits were not unexpected. K, end of (m)anecdote. At the price and planned length of ownership, you really do deserve a perfect fit and it's worth the effort. ETA - see you partially answered above while I was writing; will however leave as posted......

ETA - see you partially answered above while I was writing; will however leave as posted...... I haven't heard back from JH Audio yet, which is a bit troubling, but I'm sure they're just swamped. As you stated, the cost of entry and planned length of ownership are definitely a reason why I'm still considering sending these things in for a refit. I will probably call them next week after I've spent a bit more time with them over the weekend. My ears do change shape ever so slightly when I smile, as the top of my ear does move up a bit. What I noticed is happening is that when I smile, the earphones are being shifted up, putting more pressure towards the antihelix. This causes the earphones to sort of accommodate that movement by shifting outwards and thus popping out of my ears. My left side actually "pops" out when I smile, probably meaning I have a pretty good seal forming, but my right side slides out more easily. The earphones themselves feel like they fit pretty snug in my ears, which led me to think that the earcanal section needs to be a bit thicker, but I'm not quite sure. They are very comfortable, but I don't have that "disappearing" affect when wearing them. I can obviously tell that they are there, so I'm not sure if thicker canals would make it more obvious and possible painful.
