Duggeh Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Yeah I played the big gamble on that DAC and lost. Fortuitously, I'll be able to hand back my cards.

Sherwood Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 That sounds like something of a win/win.
boomana Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 As I'm listening to Neil Young's Live at Massey Hall 1971 right now with JH13s, my iphone, and no damn amp, all I can say is that I really can't wait to read all your thoughts once you get the customs.
Sherwood Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Well they're running a sub 1-week wait right now, as per Jaime, so hopefully that day will come sooner than later.

You know, I may hate you most of all... razzle frazzle. I really want some pink ones. **BRENT**
jp11801 Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I spoke to Jerry about some of the issues with fit and while I can't recall the particulars the issue has largely been worked through. WHile I can't promise a first time out of the box home run I believe the redo rate will drop dramatically.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 How in retardation does one fit six drivers in that tiny little thing, and more importantly...why?!?!? I mean, it's not like the physics changes that much from a 1 mm driver to a 2 mm driver, does it? I mean, if that's the case, then how are they arranged? D'Appolito? Line array?
Sherwood Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 How in retardation does one fit six drivers in that tiny little thing, and more importantly...why?!?!? I asked Jerry just this, and I tried hard to remember exactly what he told me. This is the first three-way designed with every driver doubled, and apparently doubling the drivers is extremely important. Doubling them halves their distortion in some important characteristic, and lowers the transient response time of each driver. The JH13 are twice as fast as the JH11, which is less than twice as fast as the JH5. There's magic in driver doubling. So, to your question, line array might not be a bad way to think about it.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 More drivers == lower driver excursion, naturally keeping it in lower distortion area. That's the explanation as I remember it from the Nearfield Pipedreams review.
Sherwood Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 it also makes it possible to get all the way up to 20khz, which seems to be more important than I would have thought. Maybe not, but something is going on.
The Monkey Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 How close is he to releasing another product that exceeds the JH13 (not joking)?
nattonrice Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 How close is he to releasing another product that exceeds the JH13 (not joking)? ... don't ask that! I just sent an inquiry email to Brittany about the 13's I seem to recall reading somewhere that the same question was asked to JH himself and he responded in the negative... at least for a decent while.
Edwood Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 He's working on something, but it's not the successor to the JH13. It's specifically aimed for stage performers. So for audiophile listening, the JH13 it the king for the time being.
Dreadhead Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 This thread is driving me mad... Me too me too. I really really really don't need these and won't buy without hearing them but I can't seem to stop myself from wanting to hear them so I have an excuse to buy them.:palm::palm: I am really interested to find out what makes them so special though if they are overly bassy (which some have said) that will get rid of any desire I have for them. I'm hoping for that.....
boomana Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 though if they are overly bassy (which some have said) ..... Who has said that?
tyrion Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Who has said that? x2. I have not found that to be the case. You will alway find someone that says something about a pair of headphones that you may not like. However, with the JH13, I think it's safe to say that anyone that finds them "overly bassy" would be in the minority.
ojnihs Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Anyone know if it's possible to get them to put a straight jack on the wire or do they already have those thing mass produced? I hate right angle jacks and don't know how to solder.
Sherwood Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I think the cords are mass-produced, but I know how to solder, and lots of other folks do here as well.
GPH Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Did anyone write a comparison between JH13 and O2mk1 yet? I've been searching a bit and didn't find anything reliable.

Did anyone write a comparison between JH13 and O2mk1 yet? I've been searching a bit and didn't find anything reliable. Nothing written but the JH13 is far better.
