The Monkey Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Moar bass! It will be interesting to hear mine after the refit. Al thinks I will hear the angels sing. Those angels better lay down some thick bass riffs. Greg, what happened with the ULN-8?
Voltron Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Bass to rock your balls, Bat Monkey! I love the JH13 bass and think it is a strength. Anybody who says otherwise is a fucktard.
The Monkey Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 The Jh13s are waiting for me at home. We have company coming tonight, but whatever I'm gonna listen to these things first.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Of course, the conversations would get a little old. "Wanna go for a walk? Okay, I'll wait here..." "Hey, wanna go out for ice cream? Okay, I'll wait here..." "Would you mind walking my dogs? I mean children? Thanks, I'll wait here..." "Beer? There's a bar downtown, I'll give you directions..."
Augsburger Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Moar bass! It will be interesting to hear mine after the refit. Al thinks I will hear the angels sing. Those angels better lay down some thick bass riffs. Greg, what happened with the ULN-8? Dinny, I am still working up the learning curve. Some progress tonight, I finally figured out how to send a signal into the ULN-8, now I need to figure out how to get the music out of Pandora's box. Kind of wierd, the ULN-8 supports FW400 and FW800 yet it only has two FW400 ports. My Mac Mini has a FW800 port so I mistakenly assumed that a FW800 cable would make everything work Saturday evening as I sat down with a nice Cab and ready to rock......... not. Oh and Al is right, the JH13s have all the natural bass that exists in the recordings, anyone wanting anymore bass deserves to be french kissed by a Yeti.
Iron_Dreamer Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Bass to rock your balls, Bat Monkey! I love the JH13 bass and think it is a strength. Anybody who says otherwise is a fucktard. Fucktards indeed!
Augsburger Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 But they have poor oral hygene yah know.
The Monkey Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I'm about to go to bed and listen to the refits. If I don't like the bass it appears that I am a yeti-kissing, unrock-balled, fucktard BatMonkey. That's a lot of pressure.
Voltron Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Hope you're not a YKUBFBM, Dinny. Good luck.
The Monkey Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Fell asleep before I could do any listening. Dreams of yetis dancing in my head.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Listening to them now. iMod--->TTVJ Portable--->JH13. The refit is very good. Maybe not perfect because I feel like it now might be a tiny bit too small. But I need to listen a bit. Definitely not painful, which is great.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Now for some Fugazi "Waiting Room." Waiting for ball-rocking.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Well, let's put it this way...IMO, these easily give the O2 a run for it's money. And I really don't make that statement lightly. The fit stuff is annoying because it really does have to be spot on to deliver full awesomeness. Bassballs impressions to come.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Listening to Interpol's "Untitled" which I think has one of the best rock intros of all time. Sounds awesome.
GPH Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Listening to Bob Marley - Exodus (MFSL) right now and my balls are getting literally slayed by the bass, I totally agree on the Yeti thing.
Augsburger Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I now have bass balls extroadinere, I drink the coolaide and I will ignore anyone who dosen't agree. Awesome stuff and exceeds my most skeptical expectations. Love the bass or embrass the Yeti..............your choice.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I have thoughts on the bass and my perception if it. I did some solid listening tonight and the JH13 us simply superb. It's hard for me to imagine someone disagreeing with that. I have mentioned previously that I wished for a touch more bass. Yet I also understand those of you who are satisfied with it. Indeed that's good bass. However, the highs are so crystalline (but not shouty) that I feel like just a touch more on the bottom end would achieve a perfect balance. But a perfect balance doesn't exist. So be it. The JH13 is world class. I had a hard time taking them off tonight and even found myself grooving to shitty songs unconsciously. Then I listened to the O2 rig and to me it sounded more alike than different, which is probably the highest compliment I can offer. So I guess I owe the Yeti a peck on the cheek?
GPH Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Face it Monkey, you can make excuses all you want, but in the end it will be a French kiss.
tyrion Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 In my experience with IEM's, both the quality and quantity of bass is related in some degree to the fit of the IEM in your ear. As good as mine fit, if I don't give a little extra push into the canal, the bass is not as deep as it is when I give that extra push into my ear. Everyone's "perfect fit" is different and so will everyones experience in terms of bass reseponse, at lieast that's my feeling. I don't feel the highs and to a lesser extent, the mids, are as affected by fit.
The Monkey Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Good point, Mike. I wonder if my right earpiece, now just a little smaller than ideal--has that effect.
M3NTAL Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Has anyone owned the UE triple.fi.10 and the JH13 at the same time? I'm looking to upgrade from my Etymotic ER-4 / UE TF10 combo to something from JH Audio, but want to be sure that they fit the bill. My issue with the Etymotic is the lack of qualities that would make them sound like real life. They are like a wikipedia for sound. They tell you all about it, but don't actually give you the experience of the real thing. The TF10 on the other hand seems to try too hard at the experience thing. I feel that the range from about 45hz up to around 800hz - centered around 125hz are too pronounced. The main rhythm keeping kick of songs is in here and it seems like it breaking up and too forward, causing the mid range to get hidden a little bit. I do like the subsonic frequencies being a tad on the stronger side for some funky basslines. All around, it could use some help in the control department - an amplifier REALLY helps it come together, but it still has its minor flaws. I'm sure to most gadget freaks, but non-audiophiles, these things are great. Most likely what they were aiming for? I know that for the most part - the JH13 is a godsend, but a lot of the reviews I read are sort of mixed and/or compared with things that I'm not a fan of or disagree with their assessment of. If I remember correctly, Jerry was still apart of UE when the TF10 came about, but I don't know if he was a part of the development of those. I would say the TF10 has more going right for it than most other universals, but still not what I would call Hi-Fi. I'd take most of my full-size cans over them for sound quality reason alone. Is there any speculation on when a JH16 might be reviewed? I know that the "next greatest" thing is kinda stirring over at the other forum, and I know more is not always better. My thoughts are purely in regards to the transient speed of the low end at normal volume. I am very much against bass taking away the balance of the rest of the frequency range. I would take the bass texture, speed, amplitude and combine it with the impact of a well driven HD800. Denons do the sub sonic range in an interesting fashion, but get it all wrong in the grand scheme of things. I've never heard a L3000 or other cans well regarded for extension and impact. The HP-2 I heard defiantly had impact, but it's extension wasn't the best. I do like the way the HD800 images bass and can effortlessly float it inside the large head stage. I know an IEM won't touch the open nature of the 800 or 02 for that matter, but the imaging should be spot on with an ability to place things in their own space. It would be nice to hear from someone who has done the dance down in the universal zone and had a chance to compare them with their custom cousins at the same time. I know Larry/HPA has done a bit of that, but it is always nice to read something else that might click with your own ways of expressing what you hear. Sometimes you might hear the same thing, but can't verbalize it the same and/or it might be described differently. Cheers - over written simple question
