CarlSeibert Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 The MP3 download that comes with the new Ryan Adams LP (Cardinology) has leadin/out groove and surface noise effects. Maybe I don't get out enough or something, but this strikes me as pretty strange. There must be a story behind it. Does anybody know? -Carl
Dusty Chalk Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Not likely -- they even have a preset on the Clavia Nord Modular to synthesize record crackle, it's probably something like that or a sample. It's the audio equivalent of scratched celluloid.

CarlSeibert Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 It COULD be a needle drop. But normal people clip off leadins and leadouts when they separate the tracks. There is one track where there are a couple of faint ticks. And a bit of surface noise on another. A little too perfect to be sloppiness. Too subtle to be a canned effect. There's got to be a point to it. Although maybe it's only on Adams' head. -Carl
grawk Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I still think it's an official needledrop. I have a couple of digital copies that came with LPs that are like that. I dont' really care either way tho.

I dont' really care either way tho. The MP3 sounds fine, so indeed, it doesn't matter. Of course, that also means, why go to the extra trouble? It's just the journalist in me. I want to know. What WERE they thinking? -Carl
grawk Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Because the LP probably uses a different master from the CD
Voltron Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 It's just Ryan being his usual douche bag self. ^^Answer already given^^
Dusty Chalk Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 I still think it's an official needledrop.Without actually hearing it for myself, I couldn't say. And I wouldn't even conjecture why until I had my own opinion on whether or not it was a true needledrop or not.
CarlSeibert Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 Vision test: Voltron 1 Carl 0 -Carl
