drp Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Um, wondering if those pics (as origional and fun as they are) might be better served in a DIY section of the forum; this thread seems more for the lusty and sexy make-you-want-at-any-cost variety of speakers. This is not to write that it's like someone stepping into a gorgeous naked woman picture gallery and uploading a picture of a hairy man butt sporting a gerber jar; well, sort of I guess Hey Pedalhead! Welcome to Head-Case. Awesome sounding always counts.

Welcome to Head-Case. Awesome sounding always counts. Yeah, I do feel rather like the ugly bloke who just stepped into the Claudia Schiffer thread. Gods/mods, feel free to eject my hairy arse-speakers into the DIY forum if necessary, no hard feelings edit - although...there is a bloke with antlers attached to his headphones up there
drp Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 ^^ Me thinks you will like it here and do well . . . but you will now have to find and post pictures of Claudia's crossovers. Oh, and the antler man pic? Submitted by some sort of post-bot (aka attorney) that occasionally gets through the site's filters.
n_maher Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Ah well, the barn's been there for 200 years & the subs have been there through a year of heavy use, I'll take my chances . Having said that, I'm kinda tempted to move my bikes... Hypothetically speaking, since I'm not giving advice in any official capacity you'd want to make sure of at least two things: 1. That you have not used nails in tension. Nails in tension will creep over time and back their way out of most holes. 2. That whatever screws that you have used are rated for tension loads. Lots of people like to inappropriately use drywall screws for everything and they have little to no tension value. Basically I'd hate to see a creation like that fail, I'm a fan of function over form so I like them a lot. And what concerns me is that your floor probably moves a bit when you walk on it and that'll be what eventually causes a problem at the attachment points.
Hopstretch Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Going back to the prosaic and unlikely-to-cause-squishage end of the speaker spectrum... I really like the look of these as desktop or HT speakers. They're small(ish), slick (to me) and spec'ed to play down to 45Hz with some boundary reinforcement. The Gallo speakers I've heard in the past have also sounded superb -- the cylindrical diaphragm tweeter is a real treat. Al used to own some Reference 3.1s, I think, and will probably back me up on that. Nice little integrated desktop stand, too, it looks like.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I'm probably getting a pair of Stradas for a 2.1 system, which will eventually expand to a 4.1 system. It's basically a Reference 3.1 less the bottom-most driver (wasn't sure whether to call it a woofer or a subwoofer, but...you know what I mean).
Hopstretch Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 In this case, I think it's basically a Ref 3.5 minus etc. -- although those aren't out yet. They've made some changes to the tweeter, added outrigger stands and doubled the price of the floorstanders.

Cheers, I've sent you a PM to bore you with the details. Don't want to derail this mighty fine pr0n thread any more than I already have .
jinp6301 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Can't remember if I've seen these here but VIVID Audio's GIYA speakers designed by the guy who designed the B&W Nautilius Speaker
swt61 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Can't remember if I've seen these here but VIVID Audio's GIYA speakers designed by the guy who designed the B&W Nautilius Speaker Mmmm! DairyQueen anyone?
John Buchanan Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 ^^^ Looks like an old Akai drum machine in the middle picture. I'm going to guess that's Pharrel's rumpus room. I think what you are seeing is the keyboard part of a Phillips LHH-2000 CD player. Incredibly rare machine http://www.marantzphilips.nl/index.asp?strPage=Info&strBrand=Philips&strType=lhh2000
Dusty Chalk Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Did anything ever come of those ribbon-based headphones?I'm guessing he backburnered them until (a) he could figure out the magnetic-waves-drives-wearer-crazy problem (or a.5 find out a way to drive them crazy in a way that spends more money on ribbon speakers); and ( concentrating on the speaker thing. He's probably mulling over the first problem in the back of his mind, but not devoting any intentional clock cycles to it. Is there an equivalent to the Faraday cage, except for magnetic waves? I was also considering suggesting to him to try it on a significantly smaller scale, to reduce the problem by sheer scaling down of the cause of the magnetic waves -- say, IEM's, but where the ribbons themselves don't go into the ear. (But you don't want to make them too far from the opening, as I'm sure that will cause its own share of problems, acoustically.) Sanity check?
swt61 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Magico Ultimate II Height - 90", Depth - 60", Width - 48"-18". Four compression drivers and a powered subwoofer. The baffle is milled from a 4" thick slab of solid aluminum. 22Hz-30KHz.
crappyjones123 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 wonder if there is any way i could put them in my 11x9x8 room. suggestions are welcome guys.... god do they look sexy.
Hopstretch Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 Height - 90", Depth - 60", Width - 48"-18". "Weight -- 800 lbs (363 kg)"

Sherwood Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Those look like big Pass X250s driving those magicos. Since the sub is powered, that man is using oodles of Pass watts to drive a series of compression horns that are probably 90+ dB efficient, even with the crossover. It is, in effect, like strapping a rocket on a jet. Awesome.
spritzer Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Could be a Pass X1000's since they all look the same...
Sherwood Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Could be a Pass X1000's since they all look the same... Of course. One would hate to miss out on those stunning 120 dB peaks...

Oh and Pacific Microsonics digital in that picture... ftw
Sherwood Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Even the smallest Pass X-series is at least 15 watts of class A, and I doubt you'd push more than 15 watts through that rig at any given point, so I am wholly in agreement with you. Also, missed the digital. This guy knows what's up.
