Fitz Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 That's what I call audiophile music -- that's why they play that kind of music -- that sparse, jazz trio shit -- at all the audiophile conventions. It makes any system sound good. Yeah, it takes some pretty serious fail for it not to sound good.
parhelictriangle Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 It's like those older Bose Wave radio ads with Wynton Marsalis playing some watered-down MORjazz to show off how great the Wave Radio is through the mono speaker on your 1973 Magnavox.
crappyjones123 Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 I'm just wondering how they made my cheap laptop speakers sound all audiophile with that soundtrack im starting to believe the whole garbage in garbage out idea. on the run of the mill shitty mp3 encodes, the laptop speakers sound exactly like one would assume - shitty. however, on the tracks i got from hdtracks and some other hi rez stuff and well recorded albums (sara k, patricia barber, dave koz) they actually dont sound half bad. better than ibuds at least. i cant stand them with good quality music (higher bitrate etc etc)
Hopstretch Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Ye olde RAAL Requisite Eternity. Five 15" woofers, 18 2.5" midranges and 15 5" ribbon tweeters. Cast bronze enclosure. Not to be mistaken for a Smoker's Outpost.
Grahame Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I thought that looked familiar, they had a pair at Burning Amp Festival 2008 (more info at: The Burning Amp - Diy Festival)
Guest sachu Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 That is a fine sounding speaker. Open baffle too...Crazy Serbs.
Sherwood Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I'll tell you what, kids, that RAAL did nothing for me.

Where do you put the charcoal?
Sherwood Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 ^^^ Looks like an old Akai drum machine in the middle picture. I'm going to guess that's Pharrel's rumpus room.
nikongod Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Much more here: Vanguard this post makes me horny.
manaox2 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I posted the links to that in the slow forum I think. A whole house with many speaker rooms on a Japanese site. Pure audio porn.

aardvark baguette Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 We need horn-based headphones. Did anything ever come of those ribbon-based headphones?
pedalhead Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Do ugly-but-awesome-sounding subs count?
n_maher Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 The structural engineer in me cringes at how those are mounted. I'd never let anyone walk under those if it was my house. Yikes.

Ha, trust me they're not going anywhere, these things have got loads more fixings than they need to stay put. I have happy memories of swinging repeatedly from them before mounting the drivers.

Trust me, just because something supports a load temporarily does not mean that it is permanently capable of doing the same thing.

Ah well, the barn's been there for 200 years & the subs have been there through a year of heavy use, I'll take my chances . Having said that, I'm kinda tempted to move my bikes...
Hopstretch Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Do ugly-but-awesome-sounding subs count? IB FTW!
