. o O I still have four NS-1000s, from the late 80s.  They are in rough cosmetic shape, but otherwise work just fine.  I have been in "discussion" with my sainted octogenarian mother as to why I need to bring ALL FOUR of them to the Vineyard when I move.  It's a completely rational decision, I assure you.

The thing is pretty much coax and phase linear without using FIR filtering, so there's no pre-ringing and stupid amounts of delay.

It looks very promising. All drivers are FR or they use an active filter? Let us know about the sound when you try them :)

The drivers are actively filtered, so the slopes must be rather shallow to get no phase shift. I have listened to the prototype which had different filtering and power electronics. The sound was superb! The mains in my system are of similar principle, only they use Scanny 15MU midwoofs and the same Faital HF1440 CD.

The mids are nicer on mine and they go louder - circa 120dBSPL peak at 1m. Got their acoustician to come to my place and dick around with SMAART to tune them to my subs and room. Haven't heard this kind of percussive transients outside of [very few] pro studio control rooms.

I love these types of speaker designs.  1.4" compression driver is a nice touch.  I assume Reflector Audio and this top module can be used without subwoofers, in which case what are their useful low frequency response?

My speaker is called the Square One and the more recent one is Square Two. Both run the compression horn down to 1kHz with very shallow filters. I've seen people using the same driver down to 500Hz, but the horn needs to be pretty massive and you need steeper filters to stay out of trouble.

Mine has F6=35Hz while the Square Two seems around 40Hz both in free field. In living room conditions with boundary gain help mine can do 30Hz pretty decently. At the same time there's plenty of headroom for something that's essentially a 12.5" cube. Help it down low with a decent sub and you have almost PA-like SPL capabilities.

Yes. This one is called the Museum speaker. It's a two way (concentric) horn, with a 12" bass driver above and a 12" active subwoofer below.

A good friend who runs an audio accessories company (one of the good guys - not a snake oiler) visited the Wilson room when David Wilson was still alive and at the helm. After listening for a short while, he said quietly to Wilson "I think one of the midrange drivers is connected with the wrong phase"

Wilson went into a major rant, that it was impossible a driver was wired incorrectly - yak yak yak.

My mate shrugged his shoulders and went back to his own room. After a while one of the Wilson techs came and apologized for Wilson's rant, and told him that he was absolutely right - the left hand speaker has one of the mids antiphase.

I never was a big fan of Wilson. The tweeter on Wilson and most Focal stuff wasn't my cup of tea.

Hands down best large speaker I've ever heard was the Infinity IRS that I heard in the early 80's

But my favorite speaker that I could actually live with was the Sonus Faber Extrema.

This is all from memory of course. I've never compared either with any modern speaker.
