Dusty Chalk Posted October 12, 2019 Report Posted October 12, 2019 Pretty sure it is. Variac + VU meter == preamp or impedance matcher or power supply or...?
jpelg Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 ^ More importantly, there are no interconnects to the power amp, nor is the AC cord plugged in. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 Oh hey yeah wtf? Changing my reaction to confusion.
Craig Sawyers Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 O think it is an AC regenerator for the turntable motor. The variac is used to set the voltage. I think that the knob at the bottom is a frequency switch to set the motor speed (45/33/78). Looks homebrew. 1
mikeymad Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 all kinds of porn there.but the person who has to sit in the cream colored leather chair sure gets a sucky listening angle..
robm321 Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 I'm thinking the chair might be part of the room treatment. The first deflection for the left speaker. 1 3
Craig Sawyers Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 The first picture (if you look at the pattern of the carpet) shows the chair is absolutely on axis between the speakers. The second photo's angle gives a deceptive perspective.
guzziguy Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 Erm, the cream chair isn't in the first picture.
Knuckledragger Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 The OP who posted the two above photos made a comment on switching to a low back chair greatly improved the imaging of his system. I surmise the cream chair is his old one.

mwl168 Posted October 22, 2019 Report Posted October 22, 2019 Love the Harbeths and love the stools they sit on.
jose Posted October 22, 2019 Report Posted October 22, 2019 The stools are from Ikea ... but the system is beautiful.
Augsburger Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 In this case the cinder blocks are from Home Depot? Either the residents are dwarfs or isn't that window set a bit low?
dsavitsk Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) I think you are only seeing the bottom half of the window - or else it's an attic room with a low ceiling at the wall. Cinder blocks make excellent speaker stands. Edited October 23, 2019 by dsavitsk 1
Dusty Chalk Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 Yes, they tend not to have extremely low (amplitude) resonances and attenuate vibrations. 1
robm321 Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 ^ Indeed. I'm hung up on the window too. Does it open in two parts?
Knuckledragger Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 KEF R3's, R2c, Marantz receiver and a Peachtree Nova.
