bjarnetv Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 they are designed to have controlled directivity, similar to linkwitz newest design and the Nao note speakers. the only problem with controlled directivity open baffle speakers are the ugly baffles, so it took a lot of thinking and prototyping to make these somewhat good looking also, RAAL tweeters sound amazing! 1
deepak Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 From Jeffrey Jackson/Dave Slagle's blog. Sort of cryptic post, but it sounds like he is involved in building these
Rotijon Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 http://oswaldsmillaudio.com/loudspeakers Am i the only one who love their designs?
swt61 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 No. One of the members here owns a pair. I'm impressed with aesthetics as well as sound quality.
Augsburger Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 And their turntable builds are pretty cool as well. I wish there was a local showroom around here for demos.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Those are amps on the left. Amps and preamps. Still thought I'd post it here; it's still porn.
mikeymad Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 oh naim - you guys are crazy... (but I like)
Dusty Chalk Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 How can it be not? (throws femur up into the air like he just don't care) (starts laughing uncontrollably) Ah, I kill me.
Dreadhead Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 http://www.stereophile.com/content/naim%E2%80%99s-statement-amplifier
CarlSeibert Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Those make even Wotans look sensibly compact.
bhjazz Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Ah, Mike L, up here in the Seattle area. Nicest guy you will ever meet in audio. The rest of his system is here. I have not heard his recent version of the system, but a friend a few years back declared it to be easily in the top five on the west coast. Check out the last photo: When he bought the house, it had a horse barn out back. He had it closed in and walled in, with the acoustic work being done by Rives Audio. Total custom from top to bottom. Damn.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 The cables or the wee li'l cable stands all the way from one end to th'other?
spritzer Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Both I'd think. There is a picture in the largest national newspaper here today of a high end system (Pass pre and power amps feeding ESL2905's) and it has those idiotic stands too.
RudeWolf Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Can't they just get some kind of flooring that wouldn't totally kill the sound in those cables?
spritzer Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Hmmm superconducting flooring would make millions!!!
Sherwood Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 God, that room, though. That room is a dream.
RudeWolf Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Here's some active speaker prawn - KEF X300A in transparent cabinet. Sans damping fuzz, as far as I can tell. Interestingly both speakers house more or less identical electronics and use USB cable for chaining - meaning both have DACs.
ironbut Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 God, that room, though. That room is a dream. Kinda funny,.. Mike was sitting just a couple of chairs down from you when you were at the Bottlehead booth at RMAF so many moons ago. BTW, Mike is a really nice guy but he buys into some "iffy" shit. 1
Sherwood Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 Kinda funny,.. Mike was sitting just a couple of chairs down from you when you were at the Bottlehead booth at RMAF so many moons ago. BTW, Mike is a really nice guy but he buys into some "iffy" shit. I'd love to make his acquaintance some time and spend an afternoon in the barn. I've seen pictures of it for years, and it is something of a legend in my home. I couldn't care less about the gear, frankly, as it looks like he's spent more than my entire system's value on speaker cables, but I'm very interested in the room. It's evident from the gear choices he's made that the "iffy shit" runs deep in him. Given his resources, I'm not sure what my system would look like. I'm imagining it would basically be Ray Kimber's old show demonstration rig of 12x soundlab electrostat panels run through huge Pass amps. http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;image=7739
Knuckledragger Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 DarTZeel products amuse me to no end. I've never heard any, so my amusement is derived solely from their looks (and ca. 1994 pirate BBS capitalization scheme). Supposedly, Frank Herbert based House Harkonnen on the Swiss. These two thoughts are more related than one might think.
Grahame Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 What Swiss / Pirate BSB Stereotype gives us the abomination "danalogue" then ...e.g.The LHC-208 "danalogue" streaming DAC with integrated amplifierhttp://www.dartzeel.com/index.php/en/
deepak Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 I think it's amusing that with the DSD craze and audiophiles obsessing over every FOTW DAC Alon Wolf is showing his speakers with a 20 year old DAC at last week's Munich show. I would also like to hear what $40k a pair compression drivers sound like.
tjkurita Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 I would also like to hear what $40k a pair compression drivers sound like. Definitely! Big horns and compression drivers are where it's at for me. Just need to get it together. Here is OMA's flagship:
