Hopstretch Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I admit it -- though primarily a headphone guy I enjoy drooling over pictures of beautiful speakers. For the artistry, for the engineering, for the lulz. I would enjoy seeing particularly striking examples you may happen to come across. These really struck me today. New Vienna Acoustics Klimt series. Concentric midrange/tweeter units adjustable for tilt and toe-in. Murata supertweeters. Eton spider-cone woofers. 22Hz - 100kHz. The black one makes me think of Barad-d
Voltron Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I have been reading about those quite a bit lately. The all black monitors on those stands are particularly striking.
diebenkorn Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Speakers with mouths? that's taking things to far
Dusty Chalk Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Focal Grande Utopia EM: There used to be a magazine, I think it was called Audio -- they had the greatest gear porn.
Voltron Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Speakers with mouths? that's taking things to far HT phone home.
Knuckledragger Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 There used to be a magazine, I think it was called Audio -- they had the greatest gear porn. I used to read that magazine when I was in highschool. I think there might be a box full of old issues in my mother's basement. There was another publication that was much shorter lived called Audio-Video Interiors. The gear featured in it was always as Serious (I distinctly remember a beautiful NYC apartment that had a surround system featuring five Bose cube speakers) but the photography was drool-inducing.
Duggeh Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Triple stacked ESL57 in custom build metal frame. Want.
riceboy Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Deepak. Those Hello Kitty speakers are hilarious
spritzer Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Triple stacked ESL57 in custom build metal frame. Want. Want... badly. This could also work though
Duggeh Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 The gradiated multiple small panels in an arc says "Soundlab" but I don't recognise the model(s). Aren't there disadvantages to having them that close together was my next question but looking at it, perhaps the two in the centre are configured as a kind of subwoofer? I'm redecorating my bedroom this summer. Perhaps I should put the new room together with the primary aim of ESL57 space...
spritzer Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Those are Sound-Lab U-1's and UB-1's in the center. UB-1's are dedicated bass panels which reach down to 20Hz at full or nearly full output. You can always place ESL's side by side as the radiation pattern is a figure 8 with no output to the sides.
humanflyz Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Want... badly. This could also work though That's my dream speakers...drool...
deepak Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Ray Kimber sold off his Sound Lab ProStats, those were supposed to be pretty impressive mmm big electrostat panels and Pass Labs monoblocks...
Dusty Chalk Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Might as well post this while we're still on page one: The epitome of conspicuous consumerism, I give you... Edited May 15, 2009 by Dusty Chalk
aardvark baguette Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I heard the one million dollar bill has Kennedy banging Monroe on it.
spritzer Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 mmm big electrostat panels and Pass Labs monoblocks... Mmmmm XA200.5's..... Did any of you catch the XA30.5 review in the latest Stereophile? The written review was crap as was to be expected but the measurements were tasty. Does anybody remeber what amps were/are used to drive the wall of 'stats at SME? It's probably in the Quad book but it's been a long day...

spritzer Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 That 30W amp can dish out some serious power even if it has left Class A to pull it off. The perfect ESL57 amp? I think they're X350.5 in that picture. I didn't see the review for the XA30.5, I need to renew my Stereophile subscription. I know they are X350.5's but I want some Class A in my life.

spritzer Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 You hear a "klunk" when leaving class A? It's more like a high pitched hissing noise...
