tourist-type stuff to do/where to stay in San Diego

Featured Replies

For those of you that are familiar with the area, I would love to hear some feedback. The wife and I are looking to go to San Diego for a little trip in the summer during break. A couple of days, nothing crazy. My wife loves the beach and is a stickler for staying in a "clean" area, whatever that means:palm: I was thinking Mission Bay area. Thanks for any thoughts you can share.

Humphrey's Half Moon Inn is the shit (in the colloquial sense). They have concerts there, so make sure you know and like what's playing the nights you'll be staying. I was fortunate enough to see both Tracy Chapman and George Carlin there.

Also, make a trek up to Lou's in Encinitas.

Hit up Stone Brewery if you're into beer, it's only 30 minutes or so outside of SD. Also there was a nice Russian bistro that I really liked in SD, Pomegranate I think it was called but not sure...

You can walk around the gas light district which has an abundance of bars and great restaurants. The Grand Hyatt is a great place to stay because you are right on the water and if you have the bay view, you get a ringside seat for the fireworks show. Humphreys is great for concerts but so so for beer, wine or good food.

If you really want to go stylin' take a short drive to Coranado Island or even La Jolla. Both are on the water with plenty of good restaurants and wine bars.
