aardvark baguette Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 What is the Apache revision C? Internals updated to the latest spec of the tomahawk.
guzziguy Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Internals updated to the latest spec of the tomahawk. Also updated to latest MilSpec fingernail polish, red.
tyrion Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Internals updated to the latest spec of the tomahawk. Two Tomahawks, it's balanced.
n_maher Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Emmeline "The Shadow" - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Not going to offer much competition for Slim.
grawk Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 Sure it will. Just wait til you hear the synergy after 800 hours of burn in. It's better than the apache.
Dash Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Just like the Predator DAC sounded better than the Meridan CDP in the blind test
spritzer Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 That's a totally new design from Ray... Just like the Predator DAC sounded better than the Meridan CDP in the blind test Given just how crappy Meridan CDP's are, I'm not surprised.
guzziguy Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Emmeline "The Shadow" - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Not going to offer much competition for Slim. Unfortunately it will. I'm sure that Ray announced this product even earlier than usual to keep the RSA faithful from buying the Slim, just like he did with the Predator. He seems to be falling further behind though. Sure it will. Just wait til you hear the synergy after 800 hours of burn in. It's better than the apache. Yep. It's a fact of business that, all other things being equal, the best shilled marketed product, rather than the best product, wins.
Dash Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Or by falling behind, you mean lagging at the starting line, so when the others come back around he can profess to be in the lead again.
justin Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Well, I can take comfort in knowing that there is nothing that has more than 255 steps and 0.5dB steps (undetectable by the human ear). No hiss with ES3X, so good to go there. And it won't blow up if you plug in the USB "charger" and a USB DAC at the same time.
guzziguy Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Justin, when I decide that I'm in the market for this kind of amp, have no doubt about which I'll buy.
atothex Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Why was it posted by RaYSaMueLsSoN instead of regular Ray Samuels?
Dusty Chalk Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 It could stay smaller if he shellacked the whole thing in some sort of heat-conductive coating...like fingernail polish (is fingernail polish a heat conductor or an insulator?).
manaox2 Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 It could stay smaller if he shellacked the whole thing in some sort of heat-conductive coating...like fingernail polish (is fingernail polish a heat conductor or an insulator?). Its an insulator, I'm sure it will conduct heat some but not electricity very well at all.
manaox2 Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 what if it's the really bright metallic kind? Dunno, I only know that some people have used clear nail polish to glue on components to copper traces for DIY work. I'm not sure about the metallic stuff, but there is electrically conductive paint that you can use to paint or repair traces though.
kevin gilmore Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) The volume knob on ray's new piece of crap is an alps SLLB5 http://www3.alps.com/WebObjects/catalog.woa/E/PDF/Switch/MultiControl/SLLB5/SLLB5.PDF I'm virtually 100% sure now that the digital potentiomenter chip is a dallas semiconductor (as in maxim) ds-1802 http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS1802.pdf One of the 8 pin chips is a rail splitter and the other is a 3 volt capable opamp. Which means once again.... flea power output. OR lots of clipping... No usb charging chip. Guaranteed ground loop when using the computer to simultaneously power the amp and the sound card as the source. Yep, typical ray... better than some of his stuff, but overall a D- Did not even need my new (and currently broken) 4k x 4k Xray machine... Getting a rotating anode machine in about 1 year (50Kv at 1 AMP!) Won't even have to take the circuit board out of the case... Edited May 28, 2009 by kevin gilmore
Dusty Chalk Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Getting a rotating anode machine ... Won't even have to take the circuit board out of the case...Awesome.
The Monkey Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Rotating anode machine? Is that like a laser or somethin'?
recstar24 Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Given just how crappy Meridan CDP's are, I'm not surprised. cough 508.24 cough
kevin gilmore Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Superman glasses The superman glasses are at the beam line at argon national labs.(synchrotron) Which i have access too. But if i pulled a stunt like this on the beam line i surely would get my ass thrown in jail for a long time. This is the 2.5kw version Rigaku Americas -- Products -- Generators -- FR-E+ SuperBright The 50kw version is much more fun.
spritzer Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 cough 508.24 cough It's better then the G08 but not by much. It was a bit shocking when I hooked up the Sony DAS-R1 for the first time and heard just how much better it was compared to the G08. Sure, the Meridian had a bit more extension but it made an utter mess of the rest. 1987 tech FTW!
