aardvark baguette Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Sweet. Now we just need to figure out how to stream music to it straight from this. Kingmax unveils "world's smallest" USB flash drive
luvdunhill Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 cool! how does the left/right matching work, or do you mean it has better channel matching than most DAPs? and is there some sort of gain switch?
grawk Posted May 13, 2009 Author Report Posted May 13, 2009 Is that a 5 pin mini plug so that I can use my koss esp950s with it?
Dusty Chalk Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 You could do a breakout attachment from like a mini-USB -type connector...
justin Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 cool! how does the left/right matching work, or do you mean it has better channel matching than most DAPs? and is there some sort of gain switch? the channel matching is better than 0.1dB. A gain switch would be redundant
Hopstretch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 A gain switch would be redundant Not if I want to use my HD800s on the go.
justin Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Not if I want to use my HD800s on the go. wont matter, it would be useless to add a gain switch
n_maher Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Not if I want to use my HD800s on the go. Just apply what we've heard so far Stretch, it has ~100db of attenuation compared to the standard ~60db so it's able to have a higher gain but still provide ample adjustment for sensitive phones. Hence, no gain switch required, its "range" if you will is unprecedented.

Hopstretch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Just apply what we've heard so far Stretch, it has blah blah attenuation mmm boobs sensitive blah blah is it too early for a beer I wonder unprecedented. What you say and what I hear are subtly different.
cetoole Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 What you say and what I hear are subtly different. Wow, its like you are channeling my boss.
spritzer Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 wont matter, it would be useless to add a gain switch How about a gain switch for normal gain and then a gain of 1000 for those that want to use the SR-001?
justin Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 It's a variable gain amplifier, so it already has plenty of gain switches Each step is .5dB. Max gain is 6x -- so you can max the output of this amplifier with a source output as low as 0.25Vrms.
HeadphoneAddict Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 So Want... BTW, Stretch, that was the funniest dose of "FIFY" I've ever seen.
The Monkey Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 So, wait, is this digital attenuator suitable for a desktop amp?

Will you be implementing this attenuator in one of your home amps as well later on? Because that would kick so much ass!
drp Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Ha; when I saw the Pico/Slim comparo pix, I immediately dug through my computer bag for the little pouch containing my old 1st gen iMod Nano and Sensa 2XS. The Slim looks to be about the same size (head-on view) as the Nano; slightly larger. This would make for quite the interesting micro solution. Reads like the removal of the gain switch and channel matching an even better (and more realistic) reason for considering the Slim. Yes? This all prompted me to listen to the Pico - Imod Nano - Sensa combination. Still one sweet little porta-rig. Been spinning lossless all afternoon. Damn-it-all! Yesterday, I was looking at the Pico DAC, convinced that I "needed" for the office when using the Stax 005 set. Now this? Hmmm, logic dictates that I get both. Right? {{shakes self and remembers the stat amp mission}} Nice stuff, Justin; as usual.
Salt Peanuts Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) Damn-it-all! Yesterday, I was looking at the Pico DAC, convinced that I "needed" for the office when using the Stax 005 set. Now this? Hmmm, logic dictates that I get both. Right? Yes. And of course, if you haven't pulled the trigger by the next time I see you, I'll have a Pico DAC so I can just push you off the edge. Helping Dave use up his hard-earned money since 2005. Edited May 13, 2009 by Salt Peanuts
Knuckledragger Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 It needs an optional money clip. I read that as "Monkey Clip" and thought "WAT."
elnero Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Justin, any plans for a DAC version of the Slim? I know it probably wouldn't be Slim anymore but would still have the other advantages.

Without giving too many details away...... is the variable gain in addition to a voltage divider on the input, or volume control solely from variable gain?
Nebby Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Justin, any plans for a DAC version of the Slim? I know it probably wouldn't be Slim anymore but would still have the other advantages. I can see where you're coming from, but with the recent introduction of the pico usb dac I'm thinking it'd be unlikely
Edwood Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Edwood came through with another fantastic rendering, this time of the Pico Slim Glad I could talk you into the front panel's big ass chamfers and rounded left/right edges. -Ed
