The Monkey Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 Well consider the BS he's spewing I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't have the tech knowledge to determine if it's BS. You really think it is? The USB Asynch sounds like something real.
shellylh Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 PWD Mk2 coming out. I guess it's good that it is upgradeable for those of us who have the mk1, but the price is a bit steep for early adopters of a unit that was supposed to be da bomb. I know this is the way it goes, but something here doesn't sit well with me. Well if the MK2 dacs is going to be anything like the SR-007 stax, it will be total craps, just ask Birgir.
Dreadhead Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I don't have the tech knowledge to determine if it's BS. You really think it is? The USB Asynch sounds like something real. I admit I only read his first description which did not say anything about async unless that's the digital lens thing. From the description there it sounds like re clocking not true async. The whole writeup gave me a snake oil feeling.
HeadphoneAddict Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Yum, snake oil does taste good though.
purrin Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I don't have the tech knowledge to determine if it's BS. You really think it is? The USB Asynch sounds like something real. The built-in "digital lens" sounds legit. However the bridge already essentially has this. PSA should have first fixed the bridge, gotten the bugs out, and made gapless work.
Pars Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 PS Audio has historically been a bit thick on the BS.. enough so that I would be wary of anything from them. This upgrade may be legit, and I'm not saying that their products are junk; just that they have an interesting history. For example, they used to make stuff like power amps, but apparently they developed a reputation for blowing up, so now they make AC regenerators, which uses some of that technology.
spritzer Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Well if the MK2 dacs is going to be anything like the SR-007 stax, it will be total craps, just ask Birgir. Ahh but here you get a new fuse which will make all the difference in the world...
Pars Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 ^ Heh, had forgotten about that... the Critical Link fuse. Gotta be worth the upgrade right there, cuz its critical...
The Monkey Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 It's also interesting given that I think TAS and maybe Stereophile (not sure about that one) have review samples. Odd that the revision would be introduced during that time.
spritzer Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 ^ Heh, had forgotten about that... the Critical Link fuse. Gotta be worth the upgrade right there, cuz its critical... Well it's critical since things don't work well without them. The whole fuse BS reminds me of when people were comparing the sound of outlets and the plates around them...
Pars Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 ^ Oh, but they still are. And crystals... go read AudioAsylum's Tweaks/DIY forum
spritzer Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Somebody really should write a practical electronics book for audiophiles.... 1
Dreadhead Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 My P300 is awesome in that it removed all the ground loop hum I was getting between my various components etc but can I hear any difference between any of the settings (other than on/off)? Nope.
Pars Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I've never used one, but I think their regenerators are probably pretty good (and effective). It's when they start catering to audiiophile silliness ($800 power cords, fuses, etc.) that they jump the shark. I can't say I blame them cuz it makes the margins look good
guzziguy Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Instead of calling it the PerfectWave Mk 2, maybe they should have called it the MorePerfectWave Dac.
Pars Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 ^ Heh, good point. If it's already perfect, how is it possible to improve it?
blessingx Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) They should just avoid waves. Edited November 9, 2011 by blessingx
Torpedo Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Manufacturers should avoid using the word perfect in their products, unless they plan to discontinue them, or closing the factory
screaming oranges Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 They can still use the term "Perfect" on their products. PerfectWave ... then PerfectTide ...followed by PerfectTsunami. Each one is perfect within its specification, see?
swt61 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Now I want the Ayre DAC. Great! when you're looking for a place to store the lowly Perfect Wave I suppose I could help you out.
NekoAudio Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Somebody really should write a practical electronics book for audiophiles.... Well, here are the 3 electronics books I keep close by. They're not really for audiophiles though. The Art of Electronics, Horowitz & Hill - http://amzn.com/0521370957 The Circuit Designers Companion, Williams - http://amzn.com/0750663707 Electrical Engineering: An Introduction - Schwarz & Oldham - http://amzn.com/0195105850
morphsci Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Well I actually bought a copy of the first one from some monkey on Head-Case and it has been pretty useful.
