diebenkorn Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Spring Air > > Englisch > DA-Converters > Parasound DAC-1600 HD I tried contacted them (no response) and they have no options for the United States when registering. Good luck.
Azazel Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 If my memory is ok they are fine (inside EU). But this is over $650 with shipping... must be not so hard to find a 1600 inside US lower than that.
Icarium Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 No there are plenty fo people who've paid that for 1600s. It's really pretty rare I think you only see ~3 on sale a year

It's getting hard to find ANY Parasound DACs inside the U.S. because all these silly DACaddicts are snapping them up.
blessingx Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Oh, you just need patience. Reversing myself a bit a few posts up (and few months back), a couple weeks ago I took a weekend to really listen to the HD800 and decided to test the DACs I had in the house at the same time. The Extreme Platinum was used a few tube combinations, 16-bit music and MacBook fed. Tops were the Lavry DA10 and Parasound 1100 HD, with the Lavry winning with slightly fuller body and vertical staging (and more air when going Wide PLL). The Parasound really wasn't far behind though. Apogee Duet fell to third being a bit too aggressive for this setup with some music and narrowing in the staging. CIAudio VDA1/VAC1 fell a distant fourth and Audio-gd Compass further behind that both lacking the clarity of the others. Overall further confirming the 1100 HD price-performance ratio. Since then I've picked up a 1600 HD and modded 1500, but with work and family visiting haven't yet A/Bed against the 1100 HD.
Voltron Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 It's getting hard to find ANY Parasound DACs inside the U.S. because all these silly DACaddicts are snapping them up. Shit, it's easy. Just go by Ric's and there are 4 of them in that one spot!
The Monkey Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Good point Al. I will be dispatching my team of DACninjas to the West Coast asap. Actually, NinjaDAC would be a pretty cool name for a DAC...
blessingx Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I suggest hiring the guy who broke in my car this weekend. Local, very quick and experienced in handling audio equipment.
Guest sachu Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 silly DACaddicts are snapping them up. But I only have 4 DACs...that is hardly enough to justify calling folks like me an addict yeah?
Dusty Chalk Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I have one word for you: "gateway". You're past it.
guzziguy Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I suggest hiring the guy who broke in my car this weekend. Local, very quick and experienced in handling audio equipment. Did you check to see if Wadragon/LobsterKing was selling your equipment somwhere?
Azazel Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 It's getting hard to find ANY Parasound DACs inside the U.S. because all these silly DACaddicts are snapping them up. So you suggest to take it? Mmmm... This one is a bit hard for me to justify as I already have a Pass D1 unit (so my diet of PCM63's and balanced is complete)... Time for therapy maybe

Tachikoma Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 As far as I can tell, its like paying for a downgrade :S Why would I want a DF1704 for a PMD100? Its not like the PCM63P takes 24/96 anyway. The CS8414 for CS8412 swap is at best a sidestep, too.
xand1x Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 As far as I can tell, its like paying for a downgrade :S Why would I want a DF1704 for a PMD100? Its not like the PCM63P takes 24/96 anyway. The CS8414 for CS8412 swap is at best a sidestep, too. My thoughts exactly
cetoole Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Yeah, definitely pass on that "upgrade".
atothex Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I think Icarium actually gave the DF1704 a try, with predictable results.
Icarium Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Well I didn't hate it but nor did I leave it in for more than an hr before swapping in the PMD100 since I was planning on doing that no matter what. I don't know that it can be referred to as a "
Guest sachu Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Well if it replacing the CS8412..then I would suggest looking into the DIR9001 to CS8412 converter board.
The Monkey Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Having heard both now, I prefer the 1100 to the 1000. I think the 1100 is a pretty good DAC.
darthsilverice Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 ^ Good to hear that from the DacMaster. Makes the shipping fees from USPS easier to swallow.
The Monkey Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 After further listening, I am now pretty sure that I will sell the Dodson and keep the 1100. I think the Dodson is just slightly better overall, but it is not necessarily $1k better (which is roughly the spread on the used market), especially considering what may be possible with modz. I love the Dodson, but I think my DAC strategy now is to have my one bang-for-the-buck 90s DAC, and see how things progress this year now that it appears the DAC is back on the audio industry's map. I'm still tempted by the PS Audio PWD.
dreamwhisper Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Yeah I feel ya. The 1100 is a really good DAC. I'm tempted by the Assemblage 3.1 & D2D or if I had even more cash the Emm Labs dcc2se
Spychedelic Whale Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 I'm thinking in buying the 1100 but I'm not entirely sure since I have a northstar. Having it for a few months now I'm starting to think its a bit to dry. Those who listened to both Northstar and the 1100 can tell if its worth the differences ?
Salt Peanuts Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Wasn't there someone here who sold his/her Northstar for 1100? EDIT - Found it. http://www.head-case.org/forums/home-source-components/6176-getting-parasound-d-ac-1100-a.html#post228764
