Quadrangulum Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 It's now available for preorder. WES Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier It looks like the first review is up as well. http://www.hemagazine.com/Woo_Audio_WES_Stax_SR-007_Mk2_Review
Voltron Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 No, I don't think it is a typo. The review even mentions that the prototype has 10 tubes but the final will have 11. Jack Wu told me recently that they had achieved a breakthrough of sorts in their last prototype that made the amp better. This version of the prototype is supposed to be headed my way soon for the Aug. 8 NorCal meet.
raffy Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 You're right Al, I just read the review. Jack told me that the final production version will truly blow away the prototype that was in CanJam.

Voltron Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 $4500 preorder and $4990 normal retail.
Torpedo Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Hahahaha you replied faster than I managed to edit my silly question Saw the price in the Woo website Thanks Al.
cclragnarok Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Hmmm they've added a sole 12AU7.... Why, I wonder. Maybe it's used to invert the signal for single ended inputs?
spritzer Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 It's probably a phase splitter for the SE input. We'll see when they post the internal pics...

Voltron Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 You mean by JP#s carrying it up North or some such?
Asr Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Yup, that's the plan. Not sure exactly when the pick-up will happen though, could be this weekend...
Torpedo Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Yum yum, that sounds like a very interesting meet. I kind of hate you, but just a little bit
HeadphoneAddict Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 You're right Al, I just read the review. Jack told me that the final production version will truly blow away the prototype that was in CanJam. That's what Jack said at CanJam to me - the final version would have double the voltage swing and 30% moar power.

Jack told me that the final production version will truly blow away the prototype that was in CanJam. Yup, that's the plan. Not sure exactly when the pick-up will happen though, could be this weekend... I'm still QUITE disappointed that we wont have the KGBHSE at the July 25th Colorado meet. Is there any chance that it will be back in Colorado in time to compare to the A-10 before I send the it back? It will be a major big missed opportunity if we can't get the two of them together at the same time.
luvdunhill Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 double the voltage swing why do I doubt that this is really the case?
aerius Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 It's probably a phase splitter for the SE input. We'll see when they post the internal pics... That's what it is according to their product description page WES Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier But 6SL7's as drivers? I really don't get that one.
HeadphoneAddict Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 why do I doubt that this is really the case? The WES prototype at CanJam had a 400v P-P voltage swing and Jack told me the final version would do 800v P-P.
luvdunhill Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 The WES prototype at CanJam had a 400v P-P voltage swing and Jack told me the final version would do 800v P-P. cool beans! I didn't realize the original design was so low
HeadphoneAddict Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 cool beans! I didn't realize the original design was so low I wasn't sure if it was an issue with the original design, or just a bug that he didn't get worked out in time before CanJam. I didn't ask that one.
