aardvark baguette Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Same here. On the PSU isn't that bad, but the screen on the output unit... I suppose you can order it without that. Yeah, hopefully. And it looks like you could just unscrew it, but you'd still have those 2 knobs sticking up in the middle of the amp.
Genetic Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 The glass design could be easily improved by a simple change: The upper unit could bring it's glass in front like the lower unit and have a little curve at the top end. That's it. And yes black is essential.... Amicalement
kevin gilmore Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) So this would be Woo Audio's version of the Stax SRX circuit with tube rectified power supply? NOPE. GES on steroids. No reason to ever build a srx circuit with beefed up tubes due to filament to cathode voltage concerns in the top of the first stage, and the output stage. Unless you really want 5 different filament supplies. Edited April 22, 2009 by kevin gilmore
Hopstretch Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 NOPE. GES on steroids. Good? Bad? Indifferent? From a design point of view.
faust3d Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Nice looking amp. I want to see internal pics The tube grads look very handy for people with little kids running around. I would prefer an actual tube cage, but this is still better than naked tubes. As far as removing it I bet the white things on the glass are thumb screws, so it should pop right off.
kevin gilmore Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Good circuit. Srx is a good circuit too till mikhail made total trash out of it.
aardvark baguette Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 In terms of tonality, are you guys expecting this to have a fairly neutral presentation, or something more colored? Any predictions?
GPH Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Without the windshields and in a black chassis, it'd be one of the best-looking headphone amps out there, much better than Ray's bling A-10. It's a good year for electrostatic owners.
spritzer Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 It's a good circuit for sure and it will be interesting so see how it behaves with the SR-007.
The Monkey Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 With the understanding that we are in speculation mode, what say ye with more expertise than I about the power of this new amp compared to the GES? And further, are there any readily-apparent sonic drawbacks here?
deepak Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 With the understanding that we are in speculation mode, what say ye with more expertise than I about the power of this new amp compared to the GES? nikongod Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 With the understanding that we are in speculation mode, what say ye with more expertise than I about the power of this new amp compared to the GES? I would be that this has a bunch more power than the GES. And further, are there any readily-apparent sonic drawbacks here?I would guess that there are plenty, when you look at your old gear So Dinny when you buy one, can you host a mini meet QFT
spritzer Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 I can't see any drawbacks here. Moar powahhh is king.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 ...does it rite actually! You're a lolcat, aren't you?
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Good circuit. Srx is a good circuit too till mikhail made total trash out of it. Is the GES the AC coupled version, or the DC coupled version? Also, how does the AC coupled circuit compare to the DC coupled circuit soundwise?
kevin gilmore Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 The WES is ac coupled. A fully dc coupled all tube amplifier is a royal bitch. Only the srm-717,sr-007t, kgss, kgst, BH, BHSE are fully dc coupled input thru output. The WES is going to blow away the A10. The WES is going to sound similar to mikhail's disasters. Except it won't trash output tubes and otherwise go arcy sparky. The BHSE has a different presentation. All of you out there (with cash) should buy both a BHSE and a WES. YOU WILL BE HAPPY. TRUST ME.
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Only the srm-717,sr-007t, kgss, kgst, BH, BHSE are fully dc coupled input thru output. what about this one:
kevin gilmore Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Price the pa42's lately??? Plus lots of power supplies. === bitch. Besides which using 6ca7's as the output tubes requires even more messing with the power supplies due to the cut off voltage increase.
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Price the pa42's lately??? Plus lots of power supplies. === bitch. Besides which using 6ca7's as the output tubes requires even more messing with the power supplies due to the cut off voltage increase. Why use the 6CA7 again? I don't follow. not the PA42, but stumbled upon plenty of these for beans: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/3583.pdf I was more curious on how it compares to the AC coupled amplifier.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 All of you out there (with cash) should buy both ...Thanks asshole, what about the rest of us? LOL @ "arcy sparky".
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks asshole, what about the rest of us? Buy a Singlepower, wait until it burns your house down, collect insurance money, then buy both.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 There has to be an easier way to make lots of money.
luvdunhill Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 There has to be an easier way to make lots of money. Ponzi scheme?
deepak Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 There has to be an easier way to make lots of money. Fling crack rock. Crap I mean sling.
