Right driver in my HD650 busted

Bought a bad tube off of eBay, and it looks like something happened and it fried my right driver. :( I thought it was just the tube, but a few days later when I powered my amp back up with new tubes, the problem was still there. Its hard to imagine this pair being busted: it was the third headphone I bought and the only one I kept. It's been with me since 2005.

Anyway, anyone ever have any experience with Sennheiser after warranty repairs? Was wondering if its worth it to mess with them or if I should just scope out a used pair, or upgrade to the HD800. :indra:

Currently I'm rocking the KSC75 out of the HA-2, and it sounds great. :)

Aw frick dude, that sucks. Call Senn and see if they'll sell you the drivers (or driver), the 600 drivers are available online and only $60 each. If they'll sell you the driver or a new matched pair I'll install them for you.

Yes you can. These are part 092855 at $42.15 ea.

That's what Senn quoted me for a hd650 driver

sweet, you both rock, thanks!

I had a rogue Singlepower SDS "upgrade" blow a right driver in my HD580 Jubilee (mostly upset at my own stupidity, here) :(

Called up and was very surprised to hear that a pair of HD650 drivers was only like $80 compared to $120 for 580/600 drivers. They said they were a "special order" or back-order part or something, and quoted 4 weeks, but they arrived fresh and minty like a week later :)

I thought they would only send the inner driver (ie: the part you pop out with the aid of a metal spoon), but they send the whole sandwich sans grills & pads, complete with acoustic silk and all. Nice deal - Sennheiser parts store rocks :)

Yeah, obviously thinking Casino protection... oy. Looks like I need to order a driver also, but gonna have Alex take a quick look first. Mine worked fine at a meet, then shipped them off to a buyer, where, they no longer worked fine. No biggie, just annoying, but since I _hate_ the 650 anyway...

I got mine ordered today, she told me I'd have them in 5 days. Thanks again for the part number.

i destroyed a 650 driver but replaced them both to match. they are very easy to remove & replace. if shaky decrepit me can do it, anyone can do it.

come to think of it. i have the spare original working driver if you want it. it is the entire ear cup assembly. cancel your order or return it for a refund & send me a pm & i'll mail it to you.

just take off the band, the back cover & ear pad, snap in the new assembly & voila.

super sweet of you stevieo, but I think I'll just go with the two new drivers like you did. Its possible something is wrong with my left driver as well, its just hard to tell because listening to them right now is so disconcerting. So I'd rather just swap two in to be safe.

I am happy to hear its an easy procedure. Nate, I'm going to give it a shot myself, and if I can pull it off, no need to ship it to you.

Be careful, Jack. Nate has doubled his rate. Of course, 2 x $0 still equals $0, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of the mark-up.

it ain't that sweet but no worries. check those tubes 1st before using them!

i hope it is not you ha-2. i never had a tube problem blowing a driver with my ha-2 but i have had noise issues with the amp not the hd-650. check your 650 with another amp to rule out a driver problem.

it was definitely the tube. after I waited for cool down and rolled in a new output, my ksc75 sounds splendid. this is the second time I've blown a driver with a bad tube. makes me want to get a tube tester.

I'm working on something on that front Jack, if it pans out I may have a deal for you...
