swt61 Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 You're making progress anyway Smeggy, that's a good thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Smeggy Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 I'd stll love to get the board Nebby if you wanna sell it I'm hoping I can get it all fixed.
Smeggy Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 Bleh, went through it this morning checking all the points and continuity and still dead. I have 0v dc offset, 4.5v, 65mv, LED lit, and I can still mesure DC offset at the jack, the board gets warm but no music. I swapped the board inputs too... nothing
n_maher Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 That wouldn't happen to be the ground channel, would it?
Smeggy Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 It is the one that was the active ground, yes. it was the left channel board that went pop so I rejigged it as a two channel passive ground with the active ground board as the second channel. Are the ground boards different? I thought the three boards were identical.
Pars Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 See The β22 Stereo Amplifier, Parts List: "Please note that in the 3-channel "active ground" configuration, some part values in the ground channel differ from that of the left and right channels. See the following table:"
dBel84 Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 quote from AMBLABS "If you're building the 3-channel "active ground" configuration, please note that some parts have different values on the ground channel. " ..dB it only takes a few minutes for someone to beat ya to it
n_maher Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 You will have an awfully hard time getting sound out of the ground channel. Do a little looking around the Right channel and find out what the gain is. I might have a spare working channel in the drawer.
luvdunhill Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Smeggy, we all love you to death, and you have a precious item of mine in your creative powers, but this one's for you:
Smeggy Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 I never delved into the construction of the Beta because it's all a bit over my head. In the pictures the boards all look the same so I assumed they were the same. Me >
Smeggy Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 You will have an awfully hard time getting sound out of the ground channel. Do a little looking around the Right channel and find out what the gain is. I might have a spare working channel in the drawer. I just checked and it's an 8x gain board. I'll happily pay for the board if you have one. It looks like changing gain is only a few parts, otherwise I'll try to change the ground channel into a normal one.
Smeggy Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 She lives! Thanks to everyone for the help and support in this train wreck of a n00bs DIY disaster where I managed to turn a simple task into epic fail! Recovery feels good Now, how the hell do I wire it to run speakers too? Do I feed it off the headphone socket so they cut off when the phones are plugged in?
n_maher Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Now, how the hell do I wire it to run speakers too? Do I feed it off the headphone socket so they cut off when the phones are plugged in? I would advise against this course of action, don't poke the bear for a while.
JBLoudG20 Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Glad to hear it Gary. I just got out of the shower, and while I was in there, I was wondering if i should order the stuff to build you the board I promised and was going to shoot you a PM. As for the speakers, you'll want to use a Zobel Network. Read AMB's instructions: The β22 Stereo Amplifier (go the wiring section, direct link doesn't work)
Voltron Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Why are you thinking of Smeggy in the shower? Didn't you just get engaged?
Smeggy Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 I am pretty hot and have a cute ass, what's not to think about?
dBel84 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 not sure how to follow these comments without images of sagging spandex glad to hear you got this sorted smeggy ..dB
Smeggy Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 That's MANdex if you please Yeah, it's pretty great. Love the sound, though it's still straining at the gills to run the Woofdales! I think they need a gain of 11.
dBel84 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 iirc that is where NoNoNoNoNoNo has his EHHA set and he is enjoying the ID2's immensely. I suspect the ID1's are similarly inefficient if not more and enjoy the power that these amps have to offer..dB
Smeggy Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 yeah, very hard to drive. Anyway, my Beta 22 in its generic steel case with canarywood and marble tile bling. Only bought the wood this morning and did it between shopping, watching a film she rented and all the other crap wifey has me doing It was a busy day using just the table saw and a sander/elbow grease. I coat of sanding sealer and two coats of satin laquer. Still need to do the sides and clean the rest up but it's working out ok so far. Never tried canarywood before, pretty easy to work with but has a deep grain to it so shiny finishes look sucky unless you have time to fill all the grain.
HeadphoneAddict Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Sweet looking, but how does it sound? How does it do with the K1000?
