Nebby Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Unfortunately I've run out of time prior to my move so this project will be on hold as I prepare to move to Colorado and transition out of the military.
swt61 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 ... and transition out of the military. Isn't that usually accomplished with a stint as a courier for UPS?
Dusty Chalk Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Unfortunately I've run out of time prior to my move so this project will be on hold as I prepare to move to Colorado and transition out of the military.Congratulations!
Sherwood Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 How curious! I'm in the "helping folks unload after a transcontinental move to Colorado" business. I only charge one pair of speakers
HeadphoneAddict Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Unfortunately I've run out of time prior to my move so this project will be on hold as I prepare to move to Colorado and transition out of the military. Welcome to Colorado!
naamanf Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Isn't that usually accomplished with a stint as a courier for UPS? Good god I hope not.
swt61 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Good god I hope not. I'm sure you'll look OK in Brown.
Sherwood Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I expect a mouth full of teeth for the first guy who asks what brown can do for him.
Nebby Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 With the assistance of Steve, there is hope that the mini bookshelf speakers can be completed. Picked up some sanding sealer and painting supplies yesterday and I get to try my hand at applying it tomorrow. Also, this baffle will be painted black courtesy of Rust-oleum. Lowes/home depot did not have semi-flat black, so I had to settle for satin. Hopefully it'll turn out alright!
Smeggy Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 very cool projects indeed, it all looks good enough to lick.
Nebby Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Two coats of sanding sealer on front, one coat on the back: Two coats of primer: Looks glossy black simply because I snapped the picture right after I finished spraying
Nebby Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Left them outside in the shade for a few hours, then sanded with 320 grit: Will have to wait till tonight to spray the next coat as it's too hot outside now. I went and picked up a water based poly satin clear made by Varathane. Anyone have any experience with it? I was at Home Depot and I narrowed it down to either this or the Minwax poly spray.
Nebby Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 Two coats of Minwax satin poly clear, don't mind the dust as I was just getting ready to wet sand in preparation for the next two coats. Given that I'm spraying outside without any sort of paint booth, I'm quite satisfied with the finish so far. After doing a quick fit test I noticed the layers of paint had made the tweeter hole too small for the tweeter to fit, so I actually had to sand the paint back down. Guess I cut it a bit close with the original cut
Nebby Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 First time working with bondo. Did a few test runs prior to using it to fill the gap, but I was still a bit surprised when the bondo started to solidify. Hopefully it blends well after it's primer'd! Have a couple of whiteside router bits on the way so I should get some decent progress on the SR-71 once those come in.
swt61 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I'm anxious to see a pair finished. Looking very nice Nebby!
