Nebby Posted August 23, 2009 Author Report Posted August 23, 2009 I'll definitely be making sure that the area around it is masked off with masking tape before starting. The SR-71's are finished in terms of paint, all that's left is the routing and painting of the baffles, along with the mounting of the parts on the back.
Nebby Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Installed port and jacks on the mini's and finished clear coating the SR-71's. The result:
Dusty Chalk Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Exquisite! (at the same does the Italian fingers together thing to indicate pleasure)
penger Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 You mean I-talian? Those looks awesome by the way.
aardvark baguette Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 The top ones, what looks to me like curly maple, are gorgeous.
swt61 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 what looks to me like curly maple, ... Does it say Dr. Wood next to your avatar? Nooooooooo! I'm the fuckin' Doctor...I'll take care of the diagnosis, thank you very much! :p
Nebby Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Haha....let him think it's curly maple Thank you all for the compliments, I'm rather flattered!
Nebby Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Had a massive failure on my part today, when routing the countersink for the tweeter I cut it as 4 1/4" instead of 4 1/8" so there's now a gap of 1/8" between the tweeter flange and baffle. Unfortunately I don't have the time right now to redo the baffle so I'll press on and finish it as is. It's a good thing I decided to go with a removable baffle

It's a good thing I decided to go with a removable baffle My suggestion would be to cut it even larger and make a contrasting ring of wood outside the tweeter so that it looks intentional.
Nebby Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Good idea! Will probably have to use a rabbet bit to cut the countersink larger, but it should be workable! Thanks for the idea!
swt61 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 That Nate is a smart fellow! That's exactly what I would do. It'll be a nice feature too.
Dreadhead Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 That Nate is a smart fellow! Watch out Vince Vaughn already has a huge head!
Hopstretch Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Watch out Vince Vaughn already has a huge head! Two!
n_maher Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 It is worth noting that in order to provide the above "smart" suggestion one must also have made the same dumb mistake. That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (paraphrased), "Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment."
Dusty Chalk Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I noticed that smartNate had the same approach to mistakes that a certain drummer friend of mine had -- if he made a mistake, he repeated it, so it would seem like it was done on purpose. He was universally regarded as an amazing drummer. Nate smart!
swt61 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Watch out Vince Vaughn already has a huge head! He also has some of my gear. Hince the ass kissing remarks.
n_maher Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 He also has some of my gear. Hince the ass kissing remarks. Sorry Steve, I bring the suck lately.
MASantos Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 That would look quite nice!(Nate's sugestion) Show us the result!
